Today’s meeting of the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) promoted false claims and misguided information about vaccines as part of an unprecedented effort to limit access to routine childhood immunizations and sow fear and mistrust in vaccines.

Until we can again trust the recommendations made by our federal government, AAP will continue stepping up and working with our local, state and federal partners to make sure every child in every community continues to have access to immunizations.

With the Texas Department of State Health Services reporting 146 cases of measles today and at least 6 other states also reporting cases (New Mexico, Georgia, Alaska, New Jersey and California), this is some good information illustrating the risk of the disease versus the risk of the vaccine. If you have questions about the vaccine or if you are worried your child may have symptoms of measles, please contact their pediatrician.
