I truly love seeing placentas. They’re as unique as fingerprints, and no two are ever the same. Sometimes they’re especially interesting, like this one shared by a recent class client.

This placenta had a little something extra. It what is called an accessory lobe. It didn’t impact how the placenta functioned at all, just made it even more fascinating to look at!

Our bodies are incredible in all the ways they grow, support, and bring new life into the world.

April is Cesarean Awareness Month
In the U.S., about 1 in 3 births happen via C-section. That’s 33% of families experiencing this path to meeting their baby. 
A C-section is a major abdominal surgery, and a birth, happening at the same time. It’s not the “easy way out.”  It’s strength, resilience, and bringing life into the world in a powerful way.
 Some are planned. Some come after long hours of labor. Some happen in urgent, unexpected moments. 
Every C-section has a story — and every story deserves respect.

I met up with a client for coffee recently after she welcomed her sweet baby earlier this year, and she completely surprised me with the most thoughtful handmade gift. 🥹 Anyone who knows me, knows that there were definitely tears.

Moments like this are such a beautiful reminder of the deep bonds and lasting connections that grow from supporting families during such meaningful times in their lives. I truly treasure these relationships more than words can say.

One blessing in this work is working with people who become close friends. Today I was able to witness, for the second time, the strength of a woman who has become so dear to me, and her husband who was an amazing support.

March 22–28 is World Doula Week 🤍

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Abby, and I’m a certified birth and bereavement doula, childbirth educator, and lactation counselor. I’ve spent over 10 years supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, and it is truly an honor to walk alongside them during such meaningful and vulnerable seasons of life.

At home, I’m a wife of (almost!) 20 years and a mom to four amazing kids, who keep me on my toes! This work is so close to my heart, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of each family’s story 🤍

My heart is so incredibly full tonight. I had the honor of spending the day with 17 amazing perinatal and postpartum professionals as we gathered to learn more about supporting families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss.

Their hearts are so compassionate and so deeply committed to serving their communities in meaningful, thoughtful ways. It was beautiful to witness their willingness to lean in, learn, and grow in this sacred work.

We were also grateful to welcome six local organizations to our Resource Fair. They generously shared how they walk alongside families in the loss community and built connections that will strengthen support for so many. Seeing those relationships form was such a gift.

And finally — to the four families who bravely shared your precious babies and your stories with us — thank you. Your testimonies are invaluable. The love you carry for your children and the courage it takes to speak their names continues to create change. We are so deeply grateful for you.
