1998 in Omaha, Nebraska. BFHWA is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization designed to provide all families access to health information, education, and screenings. We are a community-based organization that offers free health services to many low-income families through generous corporate and community donations

Our very own Wayne Houston shares his gratitude for organ, eye and tissue donation.

"Because of my kidney transplant, I got back valuable time and a better quality of life without the burden of weekly dialysis. After being diagnosed with late-onset diabetes that damaged my kidneys, I worked closely with my doctors, made important dietary changes, and monitored my kidney health with a nephrologist. That early attention to my symptoms helped connect me with the transplant center and begin the process that ultimately led to my transplant and a renewed chance at life.

I’m deeply grateful to my donor and to everyone who chooses to give the gift of organ and tissue donation. I also want to give a special thank you to my wife, Amanda, my “bootleg nurse” who took such great care of me, and to the transplant center team whose skill and dedication made my surgery and recovery possible." - Wayne Houston, kidney recipient
