Dysregulation can look like a lot of different things—but the root is the same: your child’s nervous system is struggling.

At Honeybee OT, we help families create tools and environments that support regulation—not just “better behavior.”

That quote hits differently when you think about your own childhood.

👃The smell of the lake
🌳Fresh-cut grass
🔥Campfire smoke

Smell is a powerful part of sensory integration and memory.

Spending time outside builds positive sensory experiences your child will carry for a lifetime.

💛 So yes, go ahead and stop to smell the roses.

🧡 April was Occupational Therapy Month! 🧡

Let’s take a moment to celebrate the creative, compassionate, and committed OTs who make a difference every day!

Occupational therapists do so much more than help people with daily tasks—we walk alongside individuals of all ages as they build confidence, independence, and joy in the things that matter most to them.

Whether it’s helping a child write their name, supporting someone through recovery, or creating sensory-friendly environments—we meet people where they are and help them move forward with purpose.

To all my fellow OTs:
✨ Your work matters.
✨ Your presence is powerful.
✨ Your impact is lasting.

Thank you for seeing the potential in every person and helping them live life to the fullest. 💛

Tag an OT who inspires you!

Wondering what craniosacral therapy is like? Here's what to expect in a session:

🌿 You’ll wear comfy layers to help you relax while I tune into your body's rhythm.
🌿 You’ll rest on your back while I use light touch at places like your skull, lower back, and feet.
🌿 The whole experience is calming and deeply restorative.

This gentle, hands-on therapy supports your body’s natural ability to reset and heal—with little effort, and often big benefits.

Have questions? Send me a message—I'd love to chat!

When building a new connection, would you rather sit face-to-face making small talk… or share an activity while you chat?

Most people choose the activity. Why?
🧩 It gives you something to focus on
🧩 Conversation flows more naturally
🧩 Awkward silences feel less intense

If your child struggles with making friends or engaging with family, a shared activity can be the perfect bridge.

Whether it’s crafts, a game, or an outdoor adventure—doing something together can open the door to connection.

It’s easy to forget how many social rules go unspoken—until someone struggles to pick them up.

Things like:
💬 Interpreting facial expressions
💬 Knowing when to take turns in conversation
💬 Understanding what’s considered “socially appropriate”

For autistic teens and concrete thinkers, these social gray areas can make relationships tricky.

So what is concrete thinking?
It’s a literal, black-and-white way of interpreting the world.

That’s why step-by-step guidance and direct teaching of social interactions can be so helpful—not to change how someone connects, but to support their understanding in a way that feels clear and respectful.

April is Autism Acceptance Month 💙

It’s a time to embrace neurodiversity and advocate for more than awareness—we’re striving for inclusion, accessibility, and respect.

Supporting an autistic child isn’t just about teaching them skills. It’s also about creating environments that work for them.

Ways to foster acceptance:
💡 Be understanding when social mistakes happen
💡 Ask about and honor sensory preferences
💡 Offer downtime and space
💡 Embrace their passions
💡 Respect stimming and other self-regulation tools
💡 Communicate in a way that suits them

To wrap up our series on improved sleep, today we are sharing three tips on improving your own sleep hygiene if you are having trouble winding down at bedtime.

1️⃣ Create a consistent schedule: Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day—even on weekends.
2️⃣ Unplug from screens: Power down electronics at least 30 minutes before bed to give your brain a chance to relax.
3️⃣ Add calming activities: Try reading, journaling, or deep breathing to ease into sleep mode.

Prioritizing your evening habits can lead to better, more restful nights. 🛌💤

Is your child’s bedtime routine no longer working? 😴

Sometimes, routines need a little refresh! Here are some simple adjustments to get things back on track:

1️⃣ Adjust the timing: Try starting the routine a bit earlier or later to better align with your child’s natural sleep cues. ⏰
2️⃣ Add a calming activity: If you’ve been rushing through the evening, include something soothing like deep breathing, gentle stretching, or a favorite calming song. 🎶
3️⃣ Incorporate sensory-friendly elements: Soft lighting, a weighted blanket, or a quiet space can create a more calming atmosphere. 🌙
4️⃣ Be flexible: Sometimes, a little change in the order of activities or adding variety can help break up any boredom or resistance.

Small tweaks can lead to big improvements in bedtime! 🌟
