🦟 West Nile Virus: Protect Yourself as Summer Winds Down

Late summer and early fall are peak times for West Nile virus in Minnesota. As of August 27, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 20 cases and 2 deaths linked to the virus statewide.

West Nile virus spreads through mosquito bites. While most people don’t get sick, about 1 in 5 may develop flu-like symptoms, and in rare cases the illness can become severe.

Protect yourself:
β€’ Use insect repellent when outdoors
β€’ Avoid being outside at dawn and dusk
β€’ Wear long sleeves and pants
β€’ Remove standing water around your home

Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day

Today is a reminder to support the health of those you care about. Encouraging a loved one to schedule a checkup or accompanying them to an appointment can make a real difference in their well-being.

Regular visits help catch concerns early and keep preventive care on track. Whether it’s a parent, spouse, friend, or neighbor, showing up for their health shows how much you care.

πŸš‘ What Minnesota Drivers Should Know About Emergency Vehicles

Every second counts when emergency responders are on the road. Knowing how to respond keeps you, your passengers, and first responders safe.

Key reminders for Minnesota drivers:
πŸ”Ή Move to the right and stop when emergency vehicles approach
πŸ”Ή Follow the Ted Foss Move Over Law: give space or slow down for stopped vehicles with flashing lights
πŸ”Ή Stay calm at intersections, near emergency scenes, and when passing roadside incidents

A few seconds of caution can prevent tragedy and protect the lives of first responders and our community.

πŸ¦‹ 25th Annual Spirit of the Wings

On August 16, we gathered at Ellen Ruth Park in Wahkon for a meaningful evening honoring loved ones. The ceremony included live music, name readings, and a monarch butterfly release.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, this year’s event raised nearly $2,500 in support of our Hospice Program.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this special tradition. πŸ’™
