Nexus-Onarga Family Healing is part of Nexus Family Healing, a national nonprofit mental health organization with over 50 years of restoring hope for thousands of children, families, and adults each year through community mental health therapy, crisis and stabilization, foster care and adoption, and residential treatment. Bringing comfort and joy to our youth during the holiday season builds meaningful campus and community connections. Thank you to our local churches, businesses, and team members who have worked together in planning, shopping, wrapping, baking, decorating, serving, and so much more! Our local Toys for Tots of Iroquois County representatives recently stopped by the Cornerstone Café & Gallery to pick up gifts donated by the café community and Nexus-Onarga staff members. Bill Nutter and Cindy Guttendorf inspire us each year as they bring hope and Christmas cheer to children in Iroquois County! Thank you both for all your work to make this magic happen!

Our Grand Prairie School students crafted colorful holiday ornaments in art class for our Christmas tree at the Onarga American Legion Post 551 Christmas Tree Lane! The quilted decorations were made using fabric donated through our *Social Fabric* campaign--Thank you to all who have contributed throughout the year!

We are excited to wrap up our 35th anniversary year with Leann Simpson as our December Spotlight! As an employee who has dedicated over thirty years to supporting staff and youth, Leann has become a treasure trove for Nexus-Onarga! Not only does she provide a wealth of knowledge and information to her coworkers in her administrative assistant role, but she also serves as an outstanding example of commitment and kindness. With efficiency and accuracy gained only through experience, Leann handles all the details that come her way while staying focused and goal oriented. She is always quick to help staff and youth when called upon, and the campus benefits from her keen organizational insight when taking on tasks that need her special attention. Leann shows up each day demonstrating compassion with a welcoming smile and greeting for all, and we are grateful for her steadfast presence!
Congratulations, Leann! ~ You are a true asset to Nexus-Onarga and to the many people whose lives you’ve enriched through both your work and your friendship!

Our Grand Prairie School junior high students started to deck the halls today to brighten the season, and the high school English class is now sharing Grinch-style cheer in their classroom (We've heard reports of hearts growing three sizes!). For our youth, decorating the tree together can encourage holiday kindness and caring. To create an environment that is both calming and inspiring, Grand Prairie School/Expressions Day School teacher Tim Walder has turned his classroom into a flourishing indoor green space with his personal collection of house plants. Students water and care for the plants, and in the process, discover the unique needs of each plant, from spider plants to succulents. Walder's leafy friends are also blossoming in other areas of the school, and the positive reactions are growing among students and staff!🪴🌺🌿

Our Story

Nexus-Onarga Family Healing is located approximately 90 miles south of Chicago, in the quiet community of Onarga, IL, on the site of a former military academy. Our campus features specialized programs and private bedrooms that provide safety and comfort for boys, ages 10-20. In this structured, homelike environment youth can safely address sexually problematic behaviors, emotional and behavioral issues, and underlying chemical abuse issues.

In addition to residential, educational, vocational, and foster care services for youth, Nexus-Onarga also operates the Nexus-Onarga Professional Development Institute, which trains individuals and groups that work with youth.
