🌿 Meet the Team: Christian Owens, BHT 🌿

Christian has been part of the Myrtle Recovery Centers family since the very beginning and is CPR certified 😌

As a Behavioral Health Tech, Christian walks alongside patients during some of their darkest days — offering support, encouragement, and hope.

💚 “I enjoy working at Myrtle because I get to help those in addiction. I get to watch them transform over a 28-day period — from their darkest days to finding hope and joy in life again! Most are so thankful to get a second chance at life and recovery.”

Born and raised right here in Scott County, TN, Christian finds purpose in helping others find theirs. Though she isn’t in recovery herself, she’s deeply connected to the journey through loved ones who are — and her compassion shines through in everything she does.

When she’s not at Myrtle, Christian loves spending time with her husband Wyatt, her two beautiful daughters, and her nephew Landry. She also treasures her time with her church and church family.

✨ Favorite quote: “Believe you can, and you’re already halfway there.”

We’re so grateful for Christian’s heart, dedication, and steady presence on the Myrtle team! 💜

Art in Recovery 🐉

Strength. Courage. Transformation.

This powerful dragon artwork was created by one of our patients during recovery. Each bead was carefully placed to bring this image to life—a reminder that, like recovery, growth takes patience, focus, and resilience.

The dragon symbolizes rising from the ashes, conquering fear, and embracing inner strength. In recovery, that same fire—the one that once caused pain—can become the spark that fuels healing and change. 💚

🖤 Let Go of What Haunts You 🖤

Sometimes the hardest ghosts to face aren’t from the outside — they’re the memories, mistakes, or stories we keep replaying in our minds. Healing begins when we give ourselves permission to release the weight of the past and move forward with compassion.

If this season feels heavy, you don’t have to carry it alone. Myrtle Recovery Centers is here to help you find peace, hope, and healing — one day at a time. 💙

🌿 Meet the Team | Teresa Smith, RN 🌿

If you’ve spent time on our 3rd floor at Myrtle Recovery Centers, there’s a good chance you’ve met Teresa Smith — and left with a smile. Teresa has been a nurse for 50 years, beginning her journey as a Candystriper volunteer at age 14 and working her way through just about every role in healthcare — ward clerk, nurse’s aide, EMT, LPN, and finally, RN.

Before joining Myrtle, Teresa spent decades in emergency rooms, labor and delivery, and nurseries, caring for people through every stage of life. After moving from Central Mississippi to Scott County a little over two years ago to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law in LaFollette, Teresa found a new calling here in our recovery community.

“I tell patients I’m usually the last nurse they see before they’re discharged, so I try to be like a mother or grandmother figure — caring, but not afraid to get tough when needed,” she says with a smile.

Teresa believes deeply in her mother’s words of wisdom: “Treat everyone the way you want your own family to be treated.” It’s a principle she’s carried through every chapter of her career and one that shines in every interaction with our patients.

When she’s not caring for others, Teresa enjoys crocheting, sewing, and spending time with her husband, who inspires her daily as he lives courageously with Parkinson’s disease. She says she’s grateful every day that “God sent me to Myrtle.” 💙

Please help us thank Teresa for her decades of service, compassion, and heart. We’re so lucky to have her on our team!

Art in Recovery ✝️

In recovery, small acts of creation can hold powerful meaning.

This handcrafted paracord cross was made by one of our patients—a symbol of strength, faith, and perseverance. Each knot represents the courage it takes to hold on, rebuild, and trust the process of healing.

Recovery often means finding new ways to connect—with faith, hope, and purpose—and this simple piece reflects all three. 💚

If you or someone you love is ready to begin their recovery journey, we’re here to help.

This week we were honored to welcome Representative Kelly Keisling to Myrtle Recovery Centers and Big South Fork Medical Center.

We’re proud to serve our community through programs that support healing, wellness, and recovery right here in rural Tennessee. It was a meaningful opportunity to share how vital rural healthcare and behavioral health services are to the strength and well-being of our region. 💚

💜 This is What Recovery Looks Like 💜

Meet Michael and Stephanie Schrock, two people whose story proves that healing, faith, and love can rebuild even the most broken parts of life.

Both Michael and Stephanie have walked long, difficult roads marked by cycles of abuse, addiction, and time spent in jail. Each spent time behind bars at different points in their lives - moments that forced them to confront their choices and sparked the desire for change. Their battles with Substance Use Disorder took a heavy toll - physically, mentally, and emotionally. It strained family relationships and tested them as parents, both determined that their children would never follow the same path.

Michael and Stephanie first met 13 years ago, during a time when both were still struggling and caught in the chaos of addiction. It wasn’t until about six years ago that their individual recovery journeys truly began to take root. Through faith, surrender, and a lot of hard work, they began healing from the inside out - learning, as Michael says, to “love and accept life just by showing up.”

Stephanie shares an important reminder for anyone still in the struggle: “Find places to help you, and don’t be ashamed.”

Today, their story continues to unfold. Surrounded by their eleven children and three grandchildren, Michael and Stephanie recently said “I do,” celebrating a love built on grace, growth, and gratitude. Their family stood proudly beside them, a beautiful reminder that recovery doesn’t just change lives, it rebuilds them.

At Myrtle Recovery Centers, we believe stories like theirs remind us that healing is possible, families can be restored, and love can grow from even the hardest beginnings. Michael and Stephanie’s story is still being written - one day, one step, and one prayer at a time.

💍 Congratulations, Michael and Stephanie - your journey inspires hope in us all.
