🛑 Boundaries Are a Form of Love 💞

Setting boundaries isn’t selfish. It’s an act of self-respect — and a powerful part of recovery and healing.

When someone begins the journey of recovery, one of the most important steps they take is learning how to protect their peace. That often means saying no to people, places, and patterns that no longer serve them — even when it’s hard.

Boundaries are not walls. They’re healthy guidelines that allow us to care for ourselves, build trust, and create space for growth. Whether you’re in recovery yourself or supporting a loved one, remember: setting boundaries is not about pushing people away — it’s about holding space for healing.

If you or someone you love is ready to take the first step toward recovery, we’re here to help.

🌟 Celebrating 2 Years of Myrtle Recovery Centers 🌟

This week marks a very special milestone - Two Years since Myrtle Recovery Centers opened its doors on August 23, 2023. From the very first patients we welcomed, to the many lives touched since then, this journey has been filled with hope, healing, and growth. 💙

In just two years, we have:
✨ Supported more than 600 patients on their recovery journeys
✨ Provided over 8,600 patient days of care
✨ Created 32 new jobs within our community

None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our team, the support of our community, and the trust of our patients. 💚

We are so grateful for these past two years, and we look forward to continuing to walk beside even more people on their journey to recovery. 🌱

🌿 Meet the Team: Sam Hamza
Case Manager | Myrtle Recovery Centers

We’re excited to introduce Sam Hamza, one of our incredible Case Managers at Myrtle Recovery Centers. Sam brings a unique blend of experience from the legal and education fields, and she’s currently pursuing her MBA at the Austin Peay, with the long-term goal of becoming an LCSW.

Before joining our team, Sam worked in both the St. Louis and Charlotte judicial systems, managing hundreds of cases across drug court, juvenile, and civil matters. That experience shaped her understanding of the legal system’s intersection with addiction and recovery—and it shows in the compassionate, hands-on care she brings to each client.

When asked what fuels her work, Sam shared:

“Working in the field of drug addiction recovery is more than just a profession for me—it’s a passion. I’m honored to walk alongside individuals on their recovery journey, offering both practical help and emotional support. Seeing someone reclaim their health, rebuild relationships, and move forward with hope is what makes this work so meaningful.”

Sam’s empathy, strength, and deep sense of purpose make her an anchor of support for our clients and an essential part of our team. 💚

✨ Art in Recovery ✨

This week’s featured piece is a powerful reminder that beauty can often be found within the darkest places. Created by one of our patients, this glass bead artwork shows two skeletons locked in an embrace, surrounded by vibrant flowers and the phases of the moon. 🌙💐

It’s a striking image of love and connection, showing how life and death, light and shadow, beauty and darkness can exist together.

Through art, our patients find ways to express the complexity of healing — where pain and hope often meet side by side. 💙

If you need support in taking the next steps of your recovery journey, don't hesitate to contact us at any time to learn more. ☎️ (423) 569-7866.

Recently, our Myrtle team had the privilege of attending “A Community Driven by Hope” in Knoxville for International Overdose Awareness Month presented by The East Tennessee Council on Children and Youth. 💜

The speakers were powerful and heartfelt, reminding us why we do the work we do—walking alongside individuals and families on their journey of healing and recovery.

We came away with some new knowledge, strong connections, and renewed hope after spending time with so many amazing people who share the same passion for making a difference. Together, we are stronger. 💪✨

August is Overdose Awareness Month 💜

This month we remember the lives lost to overdose, support the families and friends who carry that grief, and raise awareness to help prevent future tragedies.

At Myrtle Recovery Centers, we are dedicated to spreading hope and reminding our community that recovery is possible. By breaking the stigma and talking openly about addiction, we can save lives and support those who need it most.

You are not alone—and together, we can make a difference. 🌿✨

🌿 Meet Keerstin Douglas – Counselor & Case Manager at Myrtle Recovery Centers 💙

Wholeheartedly compassionate and deeply rooted in the community, Keerstin Douglas brings both lived experience and professional training to her role at Myrtle. Originally from LaFollette, TN, Keerstin understands the unique challenges rural communities face when it comes to addiction and recovery. Growing up around loved ones who struggled with substance use had a lasting impact on her—and it’s what inspired her to step into this work.

After earning her Bachelor’s in Human Services in May 2025, Keerstin completed her internship right here at Myrtle. Now as a full-time Counselor and Case Manager, she helps individuals process trauma, build healthier coping strategies, and connect to resources that support long-term recovery. She values the ability to build real relationships with the people she serves and be a steady part of their healing journey.

Outside of work, Keerstin enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her two pups, Maci and Marley 🐶. In the summer, you’ll likely find her soaking up some sun by the pool.

💬 A quote she lives by:
“You’re human. You’re allowed to make mistakes. Just don’t let it define you.” – Meredith Grey

We’re grateful to have Keerstin on our team and in our corner. Her presence is a gift to our patients and our mission. 💚

🌟 Meet the Team: Carl Bell 🌟

Carl is one of our dedicated Behavioral Health Technicians here at Myrtle Recovery Centers, and we’re so grateful to have him on our team!

Carl has been with us for a year and a half, after volunteering for three months—and he’s currently working toward his CPRS certification. In his role, Carl supports clients with their day-to-day needs, offers a listening ear, and provides transportation to and from Myrtle, including helping them transition to their next step after discharge.

Born and raised in Scott County, Carl brings a personal connection and a deep sense of purpose to the work he does. After 19 years in addiction, Carl began his recovery journey and recently celebrated his sobriety birthday on August 28, 2023. 💪 His lived experience allows him to connect with our clients in a powerful and meaningful way.

🗣 “Myrtle Recovery Centers has been the most heartfelt facility I’ve ever been to, and that’s a big part of why I chose to come back here after graduation—to give back and be part of someone else’s journey.”

When he’s not at Myrtle, you’ll likely find Carl at an AA or NA meeting, or out riding with friends and family.

💬 Favorite Motto: “RECOVERY isn’t going to work out for me—I have to work out for my RECOVERY.”

Help us celebrate Carl’s strength, compassion, and dedication! 💚
