Ashley started her journey at The Arc Madison Cortland back in 2008 and is now a Residence Manager for one of our IRAs. Ashley started here as a Direct Support Professional and held that position for 5 years before becoming an Associate Residence Manager, which brought her to her current role as Residence Manager. During a short break from her time at The Arc, she worked for Community Action, which provides rental assistance and housing improvements to community members.
A day at work for Ashley entails a range of tasks, including developing Protective Oversight Plans, completing resident appointments, and participating in Person-Centered Meetings to support our individuals as best she can. The rest of her time involves helping the individuals we support work towards their personal goals, and residential staff assist with all daily living skills and ensure the individual’s health and safety needs are met. Her favorite part of the job is creating relationships with the individuals, watching them overcome obstacles, and celebrating their successes. She sought out a position like this because she wanted to make a difference in others' lives.
Ashley’s message for people looking into this field is “If you enjoy helping others and know you can make a difference/impact in others’ lives, then this is a good place to work.” Ashley’s daily motto is to look at all aspects of a problem before making a decision. She says this mindset has helped her when problem-solving and in understanding the best outcome for everyone involved.
Ashley spends a whole lot of time listening to music; she enjoys all genres! When she’s not at work, she spends time with family, making memories with the people she cares about most. We are so lucky to have Ashley on our Arc Madison Cortland team!
