This month we are highlighting another fantastic employee here at The Arc Madison Cortland! Matthew Burkhard joined The Arc Madison Cortland in October 2019 and now works as the Habilitation Services Manager in Cortland County. Before joining the agency, he worked in residential at Unity House, held several management positions, as well as having experience in electrical and HVAC work.
Currently in Cortland, Matt manages the day program, Camp ARCO, and the Kids Enrichment Program. Balancing all three keeps him busy, but he makes it a priority to be present in each program, working alongside staff and building strong, lasting connections with the individuals he serves.
His favorite part of his job is that he doesn’t dread coming to work each day. Matt loves joining for outings in both day hab and kids enrichment activities, as well as seeing kids progress in our Camp ARCO Program.
Matt chose to work at The Arc because it was closer to home and had opportunities for professional growth. His advice to anyone interested in this field is patience, teamwork, and treating every day as a fresh start are key to success. “Live life for the present, the past is the past, and the future isn’t guaranteed. When you focus too hard on future, or dwell on the past it can ruin what’s right in front of you.”
A fun fact about Matt is that he is an Eagle Scout and has achieved the highest promotion above Eagle. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three kids. Whether it’s camping, hiking, canoeing, hunting, or simply being outdoors. He also finds time to hit the open road on his motorcycle whenever he can. The Arc Madison Cortland wouldn't function as well without all of our amazing employees like Matt!
