The Springbrook Foundation is proud to announce that the 2025 Founders Award will be presented to Dr. Gerald “Jerry” Pondolfino at our annual Evening of Music at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City on November 10th.

The Founders Award honors an individual whose commitment, generosity, and passion embody the very heart of Springbrook’s mission—supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live their fullest lives. Dr. Pondolfino’s journey with Springbrook began as a devoted parent advocating for his sons, Zachary and Scott. His dedication has become a lasting legacy of leadership and generosity, helping shape our organization's future.

This unforgettable evening—filled with inspiring conversation, beautiful performances by Springbrook parents Carmit Zori and Robert Rinehart, and special guest Todd Phillips—is not only a celebration, but also a fundraiser supporting vital Springbrook programs.

In 2024, the event raised over $70,000 for Springbrook Special Olympics. This year, proceeds will help support our new Wellness Clinic, continuing our mission to provide holistic care and opportunity to all we serve.
Join us in celebrating Jerry’s incredible impact and the spirit of community that makes Springbrook thrive.

Springbrook is proud to announce the official launch of the Go Zone, a new Day Habilitation Without Walls program hosted at SUNY Oneonta!

Through this innovative partnership, people supported by Springbrook will experience campus life in exciting new ways—connecting with student mentors, attending events, volunteering, and exploring all that the Oneonta community has to offer.

The Go Zone provides participants with opportunities to discover new interests, build lasting friendships, and engage in real-world, purpose-driven learning—all in an inclusive, vibrant college environment.

We were joined by SUNY Oneonta President Alberto Cardelle, who shared, “The Go Zone brings together so many values and initiatives such as inclusivity, service, and commitment.” Other attendees included Mark Davies, Dean of the School of Education, Human Ecology, and Sports Studies; Seth Haight, Springbrook COO; Springbrook directors and staff; program participants; SUNY Oneonta student mentors; and other supporters of this innovative program.

“The Go Zone is more than a program—it’s a bridge between people, experiences, and opportunities,” said Patricia Kennedy, Springbrook CEO. “By connecting participants with SUNY Oneonta students, we’re building authentic relationships that promote choice, growth, and belonging.”

The ribbon cutting marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Springbrook’s mission to create inclusive spaces where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive. We look forward to seeing how the Go Zone continues to strengthen connections between campus and community!

Throughout National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we’ve shared stories from people who receive Springbrook Employment Services, those who are achieving their goals and finding meaningful work in their communities.

Now, we’re highlighting the dedicated Employment Specialists who help make those success stories possible. Here’s what they had to say about their work and what inspires them each day:

💬 “The most rewarding part of my position is seeing the people we support discover their path—starting without knowing their direction and eventually becoming paid employees in the community.” – Edward Carey

💬 “I value the bond and trust we build together—it does not happen overnight, but through dedication and long-term commitment.” – Mary Richardson

💬 “I’m proud to challenge negative stigmas surrounding the word ‘disability’—both in the community and in the lives of the people we support.” – Breanna Lederman

💬 “What I enjoy most about my job is seeing the progress and excitement of the people we support when they obtain a job.” – Preston Winters

Springbrook’s Second Annual 5K Miles for a Mission in Binghamton, NY was a huge success! 🎉

We were thrilled to see such an incredible turnout — with over 125 participants in the 5K and more than 200 attendees joining us for the Fall Festival that followed! Congratulations to all our top finishers, including Josh Stone and Lindsey Holland, for their outstanding performances. 🥇

The Fall Festival was an absolute blast, and we could not have asked for better weather! From fantastic live music byJason Wicks to colorful balloon creations, amazing caricatures, and beautiful face painting for the kiddos by the awesome volunteers from Binghamton University — there was fun around every turn. 🎃

We also enjoyed a special visit from the Utica Zoo Mobile, delicious eats from Bitez & Thingz , Donut Lab , and New York City Hot Dogs, plus plenty of yard games that kept the good vibes going all afternoon.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so memorable. We cannot wait to see you again next year! 🌟

Today, we celebrate Shawn Banks, Direct Support Professional at Johnston Circle, for reaching his 5-year milestone at Springbrook! Shawn has transitioned into various roles across the organization over the years. His journey has given him a deeper appreciation for the growth those supported by Springbrook experience as they transition from campus to community living.

Shawn credits his success to the support and mentorship of his team, especially his Assistant Residential Manager, Reilly, and House Manager, Tori, who have helped him grow both personally and professionally. Their guidance has strengthened his skills and passion for the work he does every day.

Shawn shares this advice for new team members:
“Come in with an open mind and love what you do. This job can be both rewarding and stressful, but if you stick with it, it is worth it in the end.”

We are grateful for Shawn’s dedication, positivity, and commitment to the people he serves. Congratulations, Shawn, and Merry Christmas!
