Splashing, Painting, and Horsing Around! 🐴🎨💦

On Tuesday, July 22nd, Capstone Day Hab hosted an outdoor fun day, and it was packed with smiles and summer fun! From cooling off in the kiddie pool to coloring bandanas, everyone found a way to enjoy the beautiful sunshine.

A huge thank you to Director of Day Services, Sherry Waffle, for helping arrange a special visit from Chex the horse, who quickly became the star of the day! 🐴 The hayride was a crowd favorite, and kept the energy high all afternoon.

Days like these remind us why community, creativity, and connection are at the heart of what we do. 🌞

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of others? Springbrook is hiring a Shared Day Habilitation Assistant at the Oneonta Campus!

In this role, you will support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) with personal care, encouraging independence, and promoting meaningful connections in the community.

What you’ll do:
✔️ Be a positive role model and advocate
✔️ Support activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care
✔️ Help each person set and achieve personal goals
✔️ Encourage participation in fun, social, and recreational activities
✔️ Ensure a safe, supportive environment

On Saturday, July 12th, the Springbrook Scorpions teamed up with ACHIEVE at the annual Gus Macker basketball tournament in Norwich, NY, bringing big energy and great sportsmanship to the court.

A true highlight of the day was a $1,000 donation from Preferred Mutual to the Springbrook Foundation, which will directly enhance the programs and services that support people at Springbrook. We are so thankful for this generous gift, which helps make opportunities like this possible!

The sound of clapping hands, dancing feet, and a contagious beat once again filled Springbrook’s Oneonta Campus and The School’s gymnasium on Friday, July 11th, as The Schramm Band returned for another unforgettable performance. The lively group played a mix of original songs and crowd-favorite covers, keeping the energy high throughout the day. Springbrook CEO, Patricia Kennedy, and COO, Seth Haight, were both present to enjoy the show, dancing and clapping along with the band during their stop at Main Campus. The Schramm Band always delivers, and Springbrook is already looking forward to their next visit!

Check out the annual Cody Classic Hockey Tournament, this Saturday, July 19th, from 12:00 p.m.–5:30 p.m., at the Inman Sports Complex in Edison, NJ for a high-energy 4-on-4 “Iron Man” hockey tournament held in memory of Frank and Mary LaScalla.

On Thursday, July 10th, Springbrook hosted its annual Milestone Employee Reception. It was an afternoon filled with heartfelt connections, shared laughter, and lasting memories. Held at Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, N.Y., this special event honored dedicated employees who have been part of Springbrook for a decade or more. Milestone employees and honored guests enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere complete with great food, refreshing drinks, and fun outdoor games. 🎨 What a night! The Voice! 21 Art Show at SUNY Oneonta’s Martin-Mullen Gallery was a true celebration of creativity, community, and inclusion. Hosted on July 10th by The Arc Otsego, the event showcased creative works by artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities from across New York State.

Guests enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere filled with live music from , great food, and inspiring art—and many students even had the exciting opportunity to sell their artwork, sharing their talents with a wider audience and earning well-deserved recognition.

The celebration continued at the artist reception on Friday evening to meet the creators and honor their work. The event was a great opportunity to meet, mingle, and discover the wonderful talents of many different artists. If you missed the opening, no worries—the show will be up for another two weeks, so there’s still time to check out this beautiful gallery!

📣 We are excited to unveil a brand-new Communication Board on The School at Springbrook playground, thanks to the hard work and heart of Eagle Scout Samson Solomon from Troop 4 Larchmont!

Inspired by his siblings, Jacob and Shirah, who attend The School at Springbrook, Samson designed and installed the board to help students express themselves through symbols, words, and images.

🌸 With support from his family, the Springbrook Foundation, and fellow Scouts, Samson brought his vision to life, right down to the flowerbeds.

Samson shares, “Seeing it on the playground allowed me to envision the students going up to it and being able to better express themselves. It seemed like the board fit in perfectly; it almost felt like it had always been there.”

💙 Thank you, Samson, for this incredible gift to the Springbrook community!
