We kick off Women's History Month with one of the most influential women in the I/DD Community - Judith Heumann. Judy was a trailblazer in the disability rights movement who fought for equal access and inclusion. In the 1970s, she challenged the New York Board of Education, protested President Richard Nixon’s veto of the Rehabilitation Act, and helped lead a 28-day sit-in to demand enforcement of disability protections. She later co-founded the World Institute on Disability and continued advocating for the global disability community until her death in 2023.
This month, we will highlight the accomplishments of women to movements both in the I/DD field, and the Sustainability field - two important movements to the work we do at The Arc Otsego. Keep an eye on our posts for more! The Arc New York
