Increasing the revenue in your practice can be as simple as a missed posted payment, an unpostable(check mismatched with no remittance attached), insurance follow up, proper coding, and claims processing.

How do you know that your back is running properly while you are running the front end?

This week I’ll be talking about Finances as it relates to Medical Billing and Coding.

Todays topic: Paid Claims

In a perfect coding world, the ideal claim would be coded perfectly and paid at 100% with no issues from the the insurance payer. Right?

Well that’s not the world that we live in. Getting claims paid can be confusing and complicated if we are not self educating on coding guidelines, payer rules, insurance follow-up. Etc.

Coding Guidelines:
2023 coding updates are here and there are so many changes. Make sure that you are self educating yourself on those changes. If you need help sifting through them, I’ll be happy to help.

Payer Rules:
Every insurance company is different and so are their rules, regulations, compliance, and payout. Make sure you are getting authorizations when it’s required, referrals when they are required, and make SURE your credentialing is done properly! You cannot get paid if none of these things are done the correct way.

Insurance follow-up:
Most insurance companies have a timely filing of 30-60-90 days. Did you know that each time you send in a correction that clock starts over? Make the resubmission count. Don’t just pop a 59(this in itself is another conversation for another day) on it and resubmit. Study the denial reasons and figure out why the claim denied.
