Long post! DOULA!!
I attended a lunch with some doulas from Alabama and Georgia. We discussed issues, needed, and ideas. We had a great time. A few days later I received an email regarding the lunch and was told that I must not understand how to Doula correctly! Needless to say I was floored! Because I choose not to do HOME births I must not understand what it is to be a Doula! Well let me tell you that I totally understand. Not all women choose to give birth at home. I personally feel that if you choose to be induced, have an epidural, or have a cesarean section you most definitely need a Doula! Because I choose to help moms who are medicated during pregnancy does not mean they do not need extra help. In fact they need more! Medication tends to lead to the mother needing extra support after the baby comes. So I might not do as much during labor but after the baby comes when everyone is ALL about the baby, I am ALL about the mom! This support helps to put the mom back on track and helps with mom feeling better and better bonding with your baby. So if I’m wrong for all the extra help I give moms who choose to have an epidural or C-section then I guess I’m not your Doula! But if your a soon to be mom and you are going to be induced, have an epidural, or c-section then I’m your Doula! Because I’m the Doula who knows that it hurts, your sore, and you need that little extra TLC, not because your less of a mom for choosing something other than natural birth, but because you just gave birth!!!
