Creole Heritage Discovery Hub Special Presentation

We are honored to welcome Devin Bailey-Nicholas — known as Divine — as a presenter at this year’s Creole Heritage Discovery Hub during Creole Culture Day.

Divine is a charter member of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society–Louisiana Chapter and Founder of Community Birth Companion, a nonprofit dedicated to lowering infant and maternal mortality in St. Landry Parish. She is also a Certified Lactation Counselor, Student-Midwife, Doula Trainer, and local Ambassador for the National Perinatal Task Force.

Rooted in both scholarship and community care, Divine brings her passion for family history, healing traditions, and cultural preservation to the stage.

Join us October 4 in Grand Coteau for this special presentation.

In what ways can the life of George Washington Carver give us the secrets to communicating with plants? And further, to being more confident in our healing ways?

In the book, "The Secret Life of Plants," Carver is called the "Wizard of Tuskegee." He had a daily discipline--ritual, if you will - around speaking to plants.

We delve into this question and more during my DEEP TIME course. Click the link in my bio to register: https://www.jotform.com/form/252406489241155?mc_cid=a2d1030320&mc_eid=c93ee2e4fb

Gentle Reminder: DEEP TIME Starts Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025
Deep Time is my 2nd Level course. This is a 7 intensive week course, which meets 2 hours each week. Our special guides include Mama Mawusi Ashshakir and Mama Charlotte Goudeau, both Midwives. During this 7 week course, we delve into what makes one a healer, we peel off the layers to "imposter syndrome" and address our "knowing" and "wisdom." Think of it as a masterclass.
This class is ONLY for those who have taken and completed the 1st Grandma's Hands course or workshop.

🌱Week 1: Intuition in Midwifery: Ancestral Technology (Special Guide: Midwife Charlotte Goudeau)
🌱Week 2: Yarrow: Deep Study
Week 3: The Experience-Based Healer (Special Guide: Midwife Mawusi Ashshakir)
🌱Week 4: George Washington Carver; The Legacy and the Example
🌱Week 5: Cotton Medicine--More than the Root
🌱Week 6: Afterbirth--Handling the Placenta in the Black Southern Tradition
🌱Week 7: The Cycle of Life--Importance of Honoring the Postpartum
Priced for accessibility. ✊🏿

My oldest was a , and the nurses made her this name tag that we've kept for 18 years. 🧡 Now Nile is off to college and doing her own thing. One day, I would love to have a discussion on "late preemies" and their growth and development. But that's a discussion for another time. 😉

September is Celebrating and raising awareness for the tiniest fighters among us – the brave infants and their families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units. This special month is dedicated to acknowledging the challenges they face and providing them with the support and resources they need.
