☀️ HEY BLUE COLLAR CREW — THE HEAT IS NOT PLAYING THIS SUMMER.
If you work outside in the Louisiana heat — construction, oilfield, roofing, landscaping, farming, welding, EMS, utilities, road crews, etc. — heat exhaustion can sneak up on you FAST. And if ignored, it can turn into a life-threatening heat stroke.
Your body will usually warn you before it crashes. Don’t ignore the signs just to “push through.”
⚠️ Signs of HEAT EXHAUSTION:
* Heavy sweating
* Dizziness or lightheadedness
* Headache
* Muscle cramps
* Nausea or vomiting
* Weakness/fatigue
* Fast heartbeat
* Cool, clammy skin
🚨 Signs it may be progressing to HEAT STROKE:
THIS IS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY.
* Confusion or acting “off”
* Fainting
* Difficulty speaking
* Severe headache
* Hot, dry skin OR suddenly stopping sweating
* Trouble walking
* Seizures
* Loss of consciousness
🧊 Prevention Tips:
✔️ Drink water BEFORE you feel thirsty
✔️ Add electrolytes during long shifts
✔️ Take cooling/shade breaks often
✔️ Wear lightweight breathable clothing
✔️ Avoid energy drinks/alcohol during extreme heat
✔️ Eat regularly — your body needs fuel too
✔️ Watch your coworkers for signs they may not notice themselves
🩺 When to seek medical attention:
* Symptoms aren’t improving with rest/cooling
* Vomiting prevents hydration
* Chest pain, confusion, or fainting occur
* You stop sweating or become disoriented
* Symptoms rapidly worsen
Don’t wait until your body forces you to stop. Heat emergencies escalate QUICKLY.
