Leaving a high-control religious system changes more than beliefs.
It changes the way you see yourself, trust yourself, move through relationships, make decisions, and feel safe in your own life.

For many women, leaving Mormonism is only the beginning of reclaiming autonomy, identity, emotional safety, and inner authority.

This conversation is deeply personal to me. After years of supporting women through chronic stress, trauma recovery, nervous system overwhelm, and self-reclamation, I’m beginning to speak more openly about the lived realities many of us carried silently for decades.

In this episode of Be Mental Podcast, we explore overthinking — what it really is, why it happens, and how it quietly pulls us away from the present moment.
We talk about how overthinking often feels like being trapped in loops of replaying the past or trying to predict and control the future. The mind keeps running, searching for certainty, answers, or relief, while the body stays stuck in stress and tension.
Together, we explore the idea that overthinking is not a flaw or weakness, but often a protective response. The mind tries to create safety by analysing everything, solving emotions with logic, and preparing for outcomes that may never happen.
In this conversation, we discuss:

Why overthinking feels so difficult to switch off
The connection between anxiety, uncertainty, and control
How the body signals when we are disconnected from ourselves
Why presence matters more than more thinking
Simple grounding tools to return to the moment

As healers and coaches we have worked hard so that Be Mental can exist to create honest, compassionate conversations that explore the depth of the human experience—blending emotional healing, practical insight, and lighthearted connection to help people understand themselves and feel less alone. We envision a world where people feel safe to explore their inner world openly, heal without shame, and grow into their most authentic and empowered selves
