The more honestly you talk to me, the better I can protect you.
I have had patients hide things because they did not want to be judged. One patient was a head nurse. Her diabetes numbers were climbing even though she was losing weight.
When we sat down and talked, with her husband present, it came out that she was being abused. When she got hit, she would turn to sweets. Her stress and trauma were driving her blood sugar more than her food log.
Stress hormones can raise glucose. Stress can change how you eat. If you do not tell me these things, I cannot help you connect the dots.
The pharmacy is not the place for shame. It is the place for truth and safety.
