to as “zoning out.” Through hypnosis, the therapist can make suggestions for positive change on a subconscious level, using the power of the mind. If the mind can visualize positive change and believe it’s already happening, it can achieve it. Will I remember what happened? Hypnosis usually brings a very pleasant feeling of complete physical and mental relaxation. If you go into a deep hypnotic state, you might not remember everything that happened during hypnosis once you awake. However, it is important to realize that your subconscious mind will remember everything that was said by the therapist. The hypnotherapist can also use tools that enhance that power in positive ways, such as post-hypnotic suggestions and affirmations. What can Hypnotherapy be used for? Is hypnosis safe? Hypnosis is a safe, natural and non-invasive way to guide
you through positive change. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Hypnosis that's conducted by a trained therapist or health care professional is considered a safe, complementary and alternative medical treatment.”

Is it difficult to wake up from hypnosis? It is easy to be brought back from a hypnotic trance; there has never been a documented case of someone unable to come out
of it. Are there any potential risks with hypnosis? Although uncommon, there is potentiality for occurrences such as: abreaction (a strong emotional reaction to a memory); physical reactions (especially if the client has epilepsy, lung or respiratory disease, etc); recollection of blocked memories (which can cause an abreaction); and false memories (in regression therapy). It is important to remember that such occurrences can be great opportunities for a client to remove, resolve and release past issues or trauma. It’s also important to understand that recollected “memories” might be real; but they could be distorted and embellished, much like being in a dream state. Such recollections could also be just a symbolic representation of what the client felt during a hurtful or traumatic moment. A qualified hypnotherapist is prepared for and able to help clients through such issues. Does hypnosis work for everyone? Most people are capable of reaching a hypnotic state, as long as they are motivated to do so. What is self-hypnosis? Self-hypnosis is the self-induced form of hypnosis, where the client makes use of self-suggestions and affirmations. Self-hypnosis can help reinforce the work done during guided sessions. DO YOU KNOW THIS ABOUT THE LAW OF ATTRACTION?
Negative vs. Positive Focus: What Does It Really Mean?

You’ve probably heard enough about the Law of Attraction to have a basic idea of how it works. You are also likely to have heard it expressed as “like attracts like,” “your thoughts create your reality,” “you get more of what you focus on,” etc.

Things are never that straight-forward, of course. How you experience the Law of Attraction can be influenced by your relationship with other Universal Laws, such as the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Correspondence, and so forth, among countless other factors. I don’t plan to go deep into the Universal laws here, however (if you’d like to delve a bit deeper, I recommend Doreen Virtue’s Divine Magic book). I do want to share that my personal experience with focusing and attracting has revealed more nuances than I used to be familiar with or aware of.

In relation to the Law of Attraction, I always believed the polarity of your focus mattered most; that is to say, whether you focus on the negative or the positive, more of the same happens. Here’s what I discovered the hard way: By merely observing that something unwanted isn’t happening anymore, even if with a positive and grateful attitude, I can bring it right back into my awareness and, consequently, my reality.

For example: Whenever I happen to notice (and feel happy and grateful about) the fact that a noisy neighbor who plays loud music hasn’t been doing it in a while, sure enough, withing days I’ll hear their loud bass again. Or whenever I’m glad that I got better at instinctively choosing a fast lane at the grocery store, instead of the one that will take the longest, I end up by getting stuck in the old pattern of choosing the slowest lane again.

"BUMP UP YOUR ENERGY" CHALLENGE
Feel More Energetic In No Time

Have you been feeling down, drained, tired, slow, sluggish? Running out of energy earlier in the day than you used to?
There are many factors that can influence how we process and use (or waste) energy, such as age, health, etc. The first step, of course, is to follow up with your healthcare provider and undergo any required tests and exams. If you have already checked in with your doctor and received a clean bill of health (or are currently addressing health issues with your healthcare providers), but are still feeling drained and tired, here are a few points to consider:

- Stress levels: In these intense healing and transformation times, there are plenty of reasons for feeling stressed on physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and, consequently, energetic levels, such as financial concerns, health, work-related issues, relationship challenges, political climate, etc. Addressing the source of stress can help, but it’s not always possible to change circumstances (at least immediately). Finding ways to re-energize is key, whether change is possible or not.

As the Serenity prayer says, "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference." In my case, I say the following prayer: “I give this situation [or circumstance, relationship, etc] to God’s unconditional love for healing and positive solutions or resolutions, and I trust and release.” Then I take the time to connect with my inner/higher guidance to determine if action is required on my part. But that’s just meant as an example; practice the ritual or system that works best for you!

In relation to the current state of affairs, it’s best to avoid too much news and be selective about what you “consume” in general (read, watch, listen to, etc). Instead, focus on what brings you joy!

- Exercises/Mindful Practices: To bring more energy into your mind/body, try mindful practices such as Qigong, Tai Chi, Yoga, mindful walking and others. Breath work such as Pranayama (alternate nostril breathing) and meditation can also help reduce stress and increase your energy.

- Diet: Summer is approaching; in many areas we’re already dealing with record high temperatures and humidity levels, which tend to take a toll on our bodies. The general recommendation is to eat lighter, cooling foods (unless you are on a medical diet with specific requirements); however, it works best if you understand and work with your own specific needs. Ayurveda, a holistic medical system that focuses on restoring balance within the body, mind and spirit through a personalized approach, can help you find your dosha(s) or constitution and adjust your diet accordingly:

THE PAGES THAT’LL GET YOU GOING
Morning (or Bedtime) Pages

As you know, I like to share info about tools that I have tried, tested and found extremely helpful. One such tool is the morning pages journaling technique (also known as brain drain or mind dump), popularized by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way.

Basically, the idea is to fill three standard-size notebook pages (in your handwriting) with whatever comes to mind when you first get up in the morning, before doing anything else. Just let it flow, without any censorship or concerns with form, grammar, punctuation, etc. Keep in mind that whatever you write is for your eyes only; so give yourself the safe space to get whiny, vent anger, blame everyone and everything else for your woes, etc. If you can’t think of enough stuff to take up three pages, just keep writing something like “I can’t think of anything to write” on the page, until something pops up (and it will).

I know, it’s almost March, already... But I’m feeling guided to share this belated New Year message from Love with you, simply because it’s so needed right now... So here it goes:

Happy New Year! That means new opportunities, a fresh start. In spite of what happens in your surroundings, this will be a much better, happier year for you, and it will mark the beginning of an important new phase. Get ready, things will start getting much more interesting!

Nothing to fear, about your health issues; most of them are on their way out, or will become much more manageable. Your body, mind and spirit are making themselves ready!

DEAR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE...
“What Would You Have Me Know Today?”

Year 2024 was challenging on a personal and professional level. Generally speaking, it was also a challenging year to be a citizen of the world, in its current state of affairs. To be fair, it was a year of fulfilling accomplishments, as well; but those came with their own challenges and created new ones. By mid-December, as the holidays approached, I caught myself feeling tired, discouraged and even a bit depressed.

As it always happens when I find myself in need of a pick-me-up, the Universe answered. On December 18 I happened to come across a Marie Forleo interview with Eat, Pray, Love’s author Elizabeth Gilbert (Wake Up & Start Living: To Anyone Feeling Lost & Unhappy In Life, Watch This To Find Meaning Before 2024 Ends | Liz Gilbert; interview by Marie Forleo; link under References). During this fascinating interview, Gilbert shared the fact that she started a blog named Letters From Love (link also under References), based on a simple exercise she’s been practicing almost every day for 20 years: Receiving messages from Love through free-writing journaling prompts such as “Dear Love, what would you have me know today?” or “Dear Love, what is your will for me today?” According to Gilbert, the messages that follow her questions feel like downloads that pour through her from a higher, loving source. They are always messages of unconditional love and support, encouragement, assistance, cheer, comfort, consolation, confidence, faith, inspiration, reassurance...

I joined the Letters From Love blog while still listening to Gilbert’s interview and decided to try this exercise that very night, at bedtime. It was a quite an uplifting experience! I’ve been doing it almost every night ever since. Apparently, the over 100,000 people who have joined Gilbert’s blog to date are practicing this exercise and also receiving loving messages. This isn’t just a practice anymore; it’s a movement.

WHY PLATITUDES STILL WORK
Have You Heard Or Used Platitudes Lately?

We have all been in situations when all we could think to say was considered a platitude, those kinds of sayings that have been used too often to be considered meaningful, thoughtful or interesting...

Well, there’s a reason why that happens: Platitudes still work, in spite of ourselves. These expressions serve as reminders of widely acknowledged truths; they not only convey thoughts and feelings that hit the spot when we most need it (again and again), but also carry within their words the cumulative energetic charge of the countless times they are repeated with good intention.

So, here are some platitudes to carry you through your week:

Remember your “why!”

No one can do what you do the way you do it!

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

You don’t serve anyone by keeping yourself small.

The Universe has your back!

Focus on progress and results, rather than perfection.

Failure paves the road to success.

There are no failures; there’s merely another opportunity to choose.

BORED WITH WHAT YOU DO?

What Does That Mean?
A student from one of the business classes I teach, Stephanie Avery, recently asked if getting bored and being inconsistent in relation to working on your goals means that you haven't found your true passion yet. She also wondered how to determine your true passion when you have many interests and passions, and would rather diversify to prevent boredom or burnout.

Possible Causes of Boredom or Dissatisfaction with Work:
Reasons for feeling bored and wanting change can vary considerably for each individual and depend on different factors... It’s hardly ever that simple, so it’s best to not get caught in generalizations.

I’ve worked (and I’m currently working) on several projects I’m passionate about or deeply enjoy, and I can tell you that this statement has never been true for me; not even with things that I love the most. From my personal experience and from dealing with many people in the capacity of holistic practitioner and teacher, I also find that, more often than not, this assumption is not really true. What frequently happens is that many people go into their new business, project, etc, believing or expecting to feel happy and passionate and enthusiastic about it all the time, because they're doing something they love.

Expectations: “Oh, if I'm not feeling this or that way [excited, enthusiastic, passionate, joyful, blissful, etc] all the time or most of the time, or achieving my goals within the time frame that I have in mind [or whatever the expectations are]; if that's not happening, then that's not for me. That has to mean I wasn’t really that passionate about it, so I need to change my job, profession, practice, business, goals, etc...”

However, when working with something you care about, there are countless reasons why you might be feeling bored or discouraged or even depressed, to one degree or another. There's always a lot of hard work that needs to get done (some of it quite boring), so that you can get to the good stuff. There are ups and downs. There are disappointments, things can go wrong.

OPENING AN AVOCADO - PART II
You may remember what I mentioned on the Opening An Avocado blog (link under Reference): When things seem darkest, it often helps to focus on and appreciate the simplest things in life, such as opening a delicious avocado. Sometimes the avocado will be flawless, sometimes bruised; but it’s still a beautiful fruit... and process.

On the other hand, sometimes things are way passed the point where you can still work with them...

Sometimes the avocado you open is too bruised and not much of it can be salvaged (except for compost)...

Sometimes, it’s about understanding or realizing that you don’t have to eat that spoiled avocado...

Sometimes, it’s about taking a chance and going for the next avocado... Or another piece of fruit altogether.

Sometimes, it’s about...

Just food for thought :)

DELIRIUM... OR HELP FROM ABOVE?
This Happened.
Over the years, I’ve had a few events that I would classify as mystical experiences... One incident in particular stands out in my mind.

In the span of 10 or so years between my first and second marriage, I dated intermittently and had a couple of more serious relationships. However, there were many lonely nights in between those connections... On one such night, I was feeling quite sick. I’d been having some sort of thyroid imbalance or storm that had been causing me to feel tired, drained, achy and feverish every night for a couple of months straight. I was self-employed at the time and didn’t have health insurance, so medical expenses were out of pocket. I had paid to see a doctor and undergo some lab tests that revealed the imbalance, but no clear diagnosis or effective solution had been presented to me, other than the possibility of having to take thyroid medication for the rest of my life.

That night, I was feeling sicker than usual when I went to bed. I felt chills in my whole body and covered myself with blankets, which I was aware I shouldn’t have; but I was feeling so cold... After a couple of hours of fitful sleep, I was awakened by a voice in my head, a voice that seemed to be other than my own, telling me to get up and go take a tepid water shower. I tried to ignore the “Voice.” I was feeling chilly and too weak to even think about getting up, especially to take a cold shower. But the Voice was persistent and wouldn’t leave me alone. I finally dragged myself out of bed and went to the bathroom, mentally complaining and practically having an argument with the Voice. I undressed and got in the shower, and then got into another argument with the Voice about the temperature of the water; the Voice kept insisting that the water should be colder, but I was still feeling so chilly...

SOUND WHAT?
Bath. Sound Bath.

Recently, I decided to attend a sound bath event. Sound what, you may ask? Sound bath is an event during which you are literally bathed by... sound. The sound waves can be generated by different tools, but the most commonly used ones in these types of events are crystal bowls and large gongs. Some sound practitioners also add tuning forks, singing bowls, chanting, mantras, guided meditation, etc.

This was my second sound bath. I attended the first one a few years ago; it was a powerful experience, but the recent event went above and beyond my expectations. This time, I had quite a vivid and interesting vision.
