An announcement from Karen...
After 25 years as a Licensed Midwife and more than 30 years of attending births, it is with a mix of excitement and a bit of sadness that I am announcing my retirement.
I am so very grateful for the life-changing experiences I've witnessed, the wonderful families who've invited me into their lives and the relationships that have been created along the way. Serving all of you, witnessing the amazing power of birth, sharing the joys and the tears and being a small part of so many lives has been an incredible privilege.
I will always treasure the memories and all of you but it's time to move onto new adventures.

Such a loss. Dr. C provided such wonderful care for so many of our families over the years. He'll certainly be missed.
Mourning for a Great Man
To our patient families, providers, subscribers and friends of the practice:
With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we must inform you that our beloved Dr. Cannizzaro passed away on Thursday, January 13th.
"We have lost a truly great man...husband, father, doctor, friend and amazing human being. An incredibly kind and loving man. Heaven is receiving a ‘son of the most high.’ We on Earth are left with mourning, but with beautiful memories of this giant of a person." - Dr. Raul Tamayo, friend and colleague
We appreciate and thank you for your prayers and thoughts for Dr. C's family and the CIPC/Salt Room Longwood staff.
For the past year, due to our growth, we have been in search of an integrative provider who is a good fit with our team and will continue in our efforts to add one. In the meantime, the practice will remain operational and we will continue seeing patients.
Please be assured, our model of care will remain the same and stay true to Dr. C's legacy of over 40 years in this community.
As always, if you have a sick child after office hours, you can dial the office number (321-280-5867) and choose the after-hours prompt, which will connect you to the on-call provider.
Funeral service information will be forthcoming. Thank you and God bless.

A first for me...getting to catch a baby of a baby I caught!
One of the biggest joys of being a midwife is being invited into the lives of the families I serve. It's even more amazing to be part of multiple generations and extended families.
See that photo this amazing mom is holding? That newborn is her and that young midwife doing a newborn exam is me.And that cute little girl watching the whole thing? That's her big sister, who I've also had the honor of helping with her three births. Five babies and two generations in the same family is so special!

Waiting on a baby. A very special baby - a baby of a baby I caught!
This chicken was distributed in Central Florida so please check your stock. Keep you and your baby safe!

Spent the morning meeting a special baby. She's the sixth baby in her family and I've been able to greet them all. I've also greeted three of her cousins and her uncle when they arrived! Congratulations to everyone ❤️

Complete Midwifery Care
Complete prenatal, home birth and postpartum care with an experienced midwife. With a one-midwife practice, you don’t have to rotate your visits with several midwives and wonder who will attend your birth.
Focused on You
Each visit allows plenty of time for questions, concerns, education and simply getting to know one another. Family and friends are always welcome at visits and sibling participation is encouraged. By the time labor begins, a mutual friendship and trust has developed.
Prenatal Care
Prenatal visits are scheduled every four weeks up until your 28th week of pregnancy, every two weeks until your 36th week, then weekly until birth. Each visit includes measuring blood pressure, testing urine, listening to your baby’s heartbeat, measuring his growth and, as he grows, determining his position.
We Do It All
Midwifery services include ordering and collecting routine lab work and ordering routine ultrasound examinations. Additional testing, including genetic screening, and ultrasound are done as necessary or desired. We also offer water birth, birth photography and doula services.
Home Birth
When you go into labor, Karen is with you from the time you’re ready for her to arrive. She and a qualified assistant stay with you throughout your labor and birth, providing one-on-one care and support. After the birth Karen does a complete newborn examination and stays for several hours, making sure parents and baby are healthy and comfortable.
Hospital Birth Support
Planning to have your baby in the hospital? Karen can provide complete prenatal and postpartum care and in-hospital labor support.
After Care
A postpartum visit is done on day one or two, at which time newborn screening, including metabolic screening, hearing screening and congenital heart disease screening are done and the birth certificate is completed and filed. A second postpartum visit is scheduled for two to three weeks. A final visit postpartum visit is done at six to eight weeks after the birth and includes a pap smear, if needed.
And Finally
Karen is always available to you directly to address any questions or concerns that might arise.
