🦋 Thyroid Awareness Month 🦋
The thyroid is a small gland with a big impact on overall health—playing a critical role in metabolism, energy levels, heart function, and hormone regulation.
Thyroid conditions such as nodules, goiters, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer may require surgical evaluation when symptoms persist, nodules grow, or diagnostic testing raises concern.

Advances in thyroid surgery allow for:
✔️ Precise removal of affected tissue
✔️ Protection of surrounding structures, including vocal cords and parathyroid glands
✔️ Smaller incisions and improved cosmetic outcomes
✔️ Safe, effective treatment tailored to each patient

Early evaluation and appropriate treatment are key to optimal outcomes. If thyroid disease is suspected, a multidisciplinary approach—including endocrinology, imaging, and surgery—helps ensure the best plan of care.

🩺 National Without a Scalpel Day | January 16

Today we recognize the innovation behind minimally invasive techniques that continue to advance general, vascular, and thoracic surgery, improving outcomes while reducing patient risk.

On January 16, 1964, Dr. Charles Dotter performed the first percutaneous angioplasty without a scalpel, preventing limb amputation and marking a turning point in procedural medicine. This breakthrough helped pave the way for many of the image-guided and minimally invasive approaches used across surgical specialties today.

From a surgical perspective, minimally invasive procedures offer:

✔️ Reduced tissue trauma
✔️ Smaller or needle-size incisions
