Here's what people don't understand: When your nervous system detects danger (real or perceived), it AUTOMATICALLY shifts into survival mode. This happens BELOW conscious awareness.
Your thinking brain goes offline. Your body takes over.
You can't think your way out of a nervous system state because the response is happening in a part of your brain that doesn't speak in words.
This is why somatic work - body-based regulation - is so powerful. We need to work WITH the body, not against it.
You're not broken. You're not weak. Your nervous system is doing exactly what it was designed to do: keep you alive.

Here's the thing: Your body learned what "danger" means based on your past experiences. So if criticism meant rejection growing up, your nervous system might treat your boss's feedback like a tiger attack.
Is it logical? No.
Is it annoying? Absolutely.
Is it your fault? Not even a little bit.
Your nervous system is using OLD data to assess NEW situations. It's running on Windows 95 while trying to process 2025 problems.
The work isn't fixing yourself (you're not broken). It's gently updating your nervous system's safety database—showing it that 2am doomscrolling is actually NOT the self-care it thinks it is. 💀
