We offer up to date medical care for our patients from birth through college. The doctors are all board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. We are joined by a robust nursing staff and a physician assistant with over a decade of experience treating children.

This time of year is a gentle reminder to slow down and lean into connection at home. Celebrating Valentine's Day as a family doesn’t need to be over-the-top. It’s often the small, thoughtful moments that kids remember most.

A few simple ways to celebrate together:
• Less pressure, more meaning - Small traditions or relaxed plans often feel more special than big productions.
• Let kids lead the fun - Giving kids a say helps them feel excited and involved.
• Prioritize together time - Even a short, distraction-free moment can go a long way.

Love shows up in everyday moments, not just on one day of the year. How is your family celebrating together this week?

We understand why parents have questions, especially when headlines raise concerns.
A recent New York Times article explores the growing trend of declining the vitamin K shot. Dr. Alanna Levine explains why pediatricians strongly recommend it and how it protects newborns in those critical early weeks of life.

Our promise is simple: science-based guidance, honest conversations, and care you can trust.

When children are upset, our instinct as parents is often to jump in and fix things right away. We want to solve the problem, make the feeling go away, or offer a quick answer. But for many kids, what helps most in that moment is simply being heard.

Listening without rushing to fix gives children space to share their thoughts and feelings, even when they’re messy or hard to explain. It shows them that their emotions matter and that they’re safe to express them. Over time, this kind of listening helps kids build confidence, emotional awareness, and trust. Sometimes the most supportive thing we can do is pause, listen, and be present.

Anxiety, depression, and ADHD can affect children and teens, and the signs aren’t always obvious. Irritability, withdrawal, sleep changes, appetite shifts, or struggles at school may be a child’s way of asking for help.

At Orangetown Pediatrics, we take mental health seriously. We partner with families to identify concerns early and provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate support, because early intervention truly makes a difference.

If you have concerns about your child or teen, trust your instincts and reach out. We’re here to listen and guide, every step of the way. 💙

Today is the start of Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week, a reminder that caring for kids means supporting their emotional well-being just as much as their physical health. Feelings, worries, confidence, and behavior are all part of a child’s overall health and deserve care and attention.

Providers like Dr. Tara Lefenfeld, focus on creating a space where children feel comfortable, heard, and supported during visits. Those moments of connection can make a difference, especially when kids are learning how to express big emotions or navigate new challenges.

If you have questions or concerns about your child’s emotional or mental health, you can book an appointment with our team and we’ll be happy to support you.

Skiing and sledding are highlights of winter for many kids, and a little planning can help keep those days fun and stress-free. Before heading out, a few simple safety habits can make a big difference.

A few things to keep in mind:
• Helmets make a big difference - Even on smaller hills or easier runs, helmets help protect kids during slips and falls.
• The right spot keeps kids safer - Look for areas meant for sledding or slopes that match your child’s skill level, and stay clear of trees, roads, and busy paths.
• Warm-up breaks help prevent accidents - Cold fingers, tired legs, and low energy can make kids more accident-prone, so warming up often helps everyone stay comfortable.

Keeping safety simple helps kids focus on having fun and gives parents a little more peace of mind.
