Geriatric Psychiatry Division at Nathan Kline Institute - NKI

Geriatric Psychiatry Division at Nathan Kline Institute - NKI Our mission is to characterize cognitive and neurobiological changes associated with normal aging, Alzheimer's disease, and late-life depression.

Our free memory evaluation program is called
the Memory Education and Research Initiative (MERI). The MERI program offers memory and cognitive evaluation to individuals with memory complaints at no cost. Our main goals for the MERI are to communicate results of these evaluations to participants and their personal physicians, alert community health professionals about ongoing clinical studies for t

he treatment of memory disorders, develop advanced neuroimaging techniques for early detection of memory disorders and improve selection of subjects for novel therapies, and bring advances in basic research in Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders to clinical study. The initial evaluation is usually completed in 1 visit and may last approximately 2-3 hours. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member to the appointment to help with the memory evaluation. Follow-up visits may be recommended. Upon completion of the evaluation, all assessments will be scored and entered into a secure database. Results will be discussed among the doctors and psychologists of our team. A summary of this evaluation will be mailed to you within 2 to 3 weeks. It will contain findings about your general intellectual function, memory, and psychomotor functions as well as comments and recommendations.
