COLLINS, Mary Patricia,
8/18/1957 – 2/7/2026

Beloved wife, mother, and sister Mary Patricia Collins died very unexpectedly but peacefully in bed the evening of Feb 7, 2026, from a brain hemorrhage. She was very kind, loving, extremely intelligent, and joyful, with a great sense of humor. Easygoing and full of laughter, she was quick to make a friend everywhere she went. Mary enjoyed cooking and tinkering with new recipes in the kitchen, doing puzzles and crosswords, going on walks with her husband and dogs, travelling, reading mysteries, playing cards, and winning at trivia. She never missed a chance to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays. Her big smile and bigger heart were loved by all.

She grew up in South Buffalo, graduated from SUNY Buffalo cm laude, and later moved to Alaska where she met her husband, William C. (Chuck) Greeson. They were together for 36 years until her untimely passing at age 68. In Alaska, she worked as a Research Analyst for Anchorage, then moved to Juneau where she held a similar job for the state government from 1991-2006. She and Chuck raised sons Liam and Eric, and daughter Kylie. On retirement in 2007, she moved with Chuck and Liam to a small farm in Gasport, NY where they had a vineyard and made wine. She and Chuck then lived seven years in Tucson AZ. They moved back to South Buffalo in 2022. She and Chuck travelled the world extensively over these years.

Mary was the seventh of nine children of the late James J. JR. and Edna (Simon) Collins of Buffalo. She is survived by her husband, three children, four grandchildren (Grant, Emmy, Dean, and Joy Bond), sisters Lauretta (Michael) Fruth, Donna (late Kevin) Curry, Sheila (Michael) Rosowicz, Barbara (Charles Weagraff) Collins, Dorothy (late Timothy) and her brother Frederick as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-niblings, and friends. I want to share the passing of a truly remarkable woman—my mother—at the age of 96.
Mom was far ahead of her time. In the late 1950s, she built a career outside the home as a professional freelance runway model, later becoming the owner and director of a charm school and modeling agency, and working as a co-op advertising representative for women’s wear. She was also a co-founder and president of Ad Women of Buffalo. Alongside her professional accomplishments, she was a devoted wife and loving mother.
She raised my sister, Patty and me to be independent, confident, and unafraid to take on any challenge. At her charm school, she taught far more than makeup, hair, and clothing. She taught poise, confidence, and the importance of speaking up politely for yourself—especially in what was very much a man’s world at the time. Looking back, I now see how those life skills shaped my sister and me and served us well in our chosen careers.
She was predeceased by our father, William A. Knab, and later by Jack R. Round—two wonderful men who also taught me so much. My heartfelt thanks go to my daughter, Chloe DeSantis, for assisting with Mom’s nursing care over the past few weeks. A special thank-you as well to Hospice of Buffalo, and especially to Cindy Wade, dear friend and caregiver for the past six months. You are all truly amazing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at a date and time to be determined. I will post the details when they are available. Arrangements by the JAMES W. Robert Edward “Bob” Daminski, 71, of Orchard Park, New York, passed away suddenly on February 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born to the late Eugene and Marian Daminski, Bob lived a life defined by devotion — to his faith, his family, his friends, and the outdoors he so dearly loved.

Bob was the beloved husband of 50 years to Carla Daminski (Catanzaro), his high school sweetheart and lifelong partner. Together they built a beautiful family that was Bob’s greatest pride. He was a loving and proud father to Jill Mergenhagen (Mike) and Robert Daminski Jr. (Melissa), and a deeply devoted grandfather to Michael Mergenhagen, Rian Mergenhagen, Reese Mergenhagen, Jack Mergenhagen, Bobby Daminski III, and Billy Daminski. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and nothing brought him more joy than cheering them on, teaching them, and sharing stories that only Papa could tell. Bob, who loved his many dogs and pets, left behind his loving and faithful pup, Mac, who will miss him dearly.

Bob is also survived by his loving siblings Janis Wieckowski (Jon) and Richard Daminski (Elaine). He was predeceased by his sister Mary Ann Nowicki (late Robert) and his brother Ronald Daminski (Donna Hicks). Family meant everything to Bob, and he cherished the bond he shared with each of them.

A proud graduate of Bishop Timon High School and Trocaire College, Bob went on to build a remarkable career spanning more than 50 years combined with Consolidated Freightways and M&L Worldwide Logistics. His work ethic was unmatched, and he earned the respect of colleagues and friends throughout his long career.

Outside of work, Bob truly came alive in the great outdoors. He was a legendary deer hunter, a fearless salmon slayer, and a fisherman who always seemed to know where the big ones were hiding. Whether in the woods at dawn or casting a line into the water, he found peace, purpose, and joy in nature. Many of his best stories — and there were plenty — began with an early morning hunting or a fishing trip that grew into a family memory. Bob, a lover of all sports, loved the Buffalo Bills with great passion.

Above all else, Bob’s legacy is love. He was kind, strong, generous, and always there when someone needed him. His presence filled a room, his advice carried weight, and his laughter will echo in the hearts of those who knew him.

Family and friends may call Thursday March 5th from 4-8PM at Cannan Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday March 6th at 9:30AM at St. Martin of Tours Church.

Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that his stories, traditions, and love will live on through the family he built and cherished so deeply. Online condolences at www.CANNANFH.com

VANDERLIP, Evelyn Marie
75, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026 surrounded by her four children. Born September 12, 1950, she was the beloved daughter of the late William Cates Childers and Fredda Lee Childers of Dallas, Texas.

Evelyn was the loving mother of Tammi (John Samuel) Cogswell, Thomas Vanderlip, Terrence (Michele) Vanderlip, and Tracy Vanderlip. She was the proud grandmother of Thomas, Kaylin, and Sean Vanderlip.

She was the oldest sister of Charlotte Childers, Celia Childers, Susan (David) Mackey, and William (Joanna) Childers.

She was Aunt Ev to many nieces and nephews who she loved and adored.

Her love for her family was the center of her world. She had a natural gift for caring for others and was known for her gentle kindness, warm heart, and ability to make people feel supported and loved.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — long coffee conversations, and unhurried meals shared with family and friends. She understood something many of us forget: that the best moments in life are the unhurried ones spent together. Evelyn could always laugh at herself and treasured the laughs and playful teasing that filled so many family moments.

She was also adored by her beloved dog, Freckles, a cherished companion, loyal shadow, and best friend.

As her nephew recently said, “She was a true southern belle with a big Buffalo heart.”

She will be missed more than words can say. We find comfort in knowing the love she gave so freely lives on — in her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends, and in every small act of care we show to others.

In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness in her memory.

Friends and family may visit Saturday, February 28th, from 1–3 p.m. at Cannan Funeral Home Inc., 3155 Orchard Park Rd., with a prayer service immediately following. Online condolences at www.CANNANFH.com
