Today, on Memorial Day, I pause to honor all the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice laid the foundation for the freedoms we hold dear, and their legacy lives on in every flag that flies and every heart that remembers.

This year, my heart carries a deeper weight. On Monday, May 19, 2025, my father, Jose Ricardo Alarcon—also known lovingly as JR, Dickey, Richard, Dad, and Grandpa—passed away. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era, and his strength, honor, and love for his family and country will never be forgotten.

Dad, your legacy lives on through us. Your stories, your laughter, your wisdom—these remain etched in our hearts forever. Thank you for your service and for being my rock.

Rest in eternal peace, Dad. I love you always.

Cancer sucks.

I walked this road with my mother when she was diagnosed with kidney cancer. By the grace of God, she only lost a third of her kidney—and today, she’s cancer-free. 🙏🏽

Now, I’m walking it again not even a month later. But this time with my father. My strong, funny, loving dad. Stage 4 stomach cancer which spread to his liver, and now brain, has taken its toll, and now we are nearing the end of this hard journey.

This photo says it all—his joy in the simple things, like carving a turkey outside in the Arizona sun. That’s who he is. Just a good simple man. Much love to my Auntie Patsy & Auntie Nora who made this happen for my Dad... We had so many laughs over the redneck Thanksgiving Chicanada he did to hold the table up on his ramp of his travel trailer.

Cancer doesn’t just attack bodies. It shatters hearts, steals time, and makes you cherish every smile, every story, and every moment you have left.

If you’re facing this too, please know you’re not alone. My heart is with you.💔
