Children's Center

Children's Center Work with the community to end child abuse and neglect through assessment, treatment, and prevention.

Children’s Center is a private, non-profit child abuse intervention center accredited by the National Children’s Alliance. Each year, Children’s Center conducts medical examinations and interviews for more than 400 Clackamas County children who are suspected victims of abuse and neglect—while providing resources, referrals, or other support to more than 300 additional families. Families are never

billed for services at Children’s Center. Medical insurance and government grants account for approximately 60% of our funding. The remaining costs associated with medically assessing and supporting who are suspected victims of child abuse and neglect are covered by generous donors.

In addition to academics, students gain essential skills and supports at school that help foster healthy, safe development. Building positive peer relationships, connecting with trusted adults, and engaging in social-emotional learning are all powerful ways to strengthen resilience and prevent abuse.

Last night, we hosted a showing of Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age for parents, caregivers, and students in the All Saints school community. The film explores how children and teens interact with technology and offers guidance on how to encourage healthier, more balanced use.

Even as we head into a busy week (we’re looking forward to seeing many of you at the Gala on Friday!), our prevention work continues. We also had the opportunity to present at the Oregon City School Board meeting, sharing about child abuse prevention and ways we can collaborate to empower staff and parents to protect kids. If you are interested in bringing prevention training and resources to adults in your school community, reach out to us at prevention@childrenscenter.cc.

Today, April 10th, we wear blue in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month, to show solidarity, raise awareness, and promote child safety. We know that abuse is preventable and healing is possible. Through child-centered, specialized assessment, treatment, and prevention services, we work every day to break cycles of abuse and create pathways to healing. We are proud to provide warm, calm environments and expert care for children and families during some of their most difficult times. 💙

Last night, we were honored to host the pilot training for a new prevention curriculum: Connect to Protect Kids! A network of national leaders in child sexual abuse prevention, including our Oregon-based prevention partner, Protect Our Children, has been working for nearly 2 years to develop this innovative, flexible, evidence-and community-based program.

We’re also excited to share that our Courthouse Facility Dog, Todd, is settling into his role at Children's Center quite nicely. His gentle, comforting presence is already making a meaningful difference, and we look forward to the many ways he will continue to support the children and families we serve.

Join us next Tuesday for our Community Conversations event in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month 💙

As part of our quarterly networking and learning series, we’re excited to welcome Kylee Weron, LCSW, a social worker with the North Clackamas School District and a HOPE trainer. She’ll be sharing about the Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE) model, which we’ve integrated into our prevention work.

Positive experiences can ease toxic stress and help children and youth grow into more resilient, healthier adults. The HOPE model identifies ways that our communities and systems of care can better ensure that all children have more positive experiences and that all families have support to nurture and celebrate their strengths. Come together to learn about the research behind and practical application of the HOPE framework.

Parenting is hard, even under the best of circumstances. Finding community and support is important to help ease the burden during hard moments. Whether story time at the library, an organized play group, or attending a parenting education class, there are so many ways to connect with others who are experiencing the same journey. Helping parents and children feel seen, validated and supported is a way we can all contribute to strong community.

Check out our community partner Clackamas Parenting Together for local classes and opportunities for connection. Our book, Raising Happy, Healthy, Safe Kids is a great resource for other parenting tips and ideas.

Thank you to weridetogether.today for sending us a whole box of meaningful companions, we know they will be deeply cherished by the children who take them home.

We were recently introduced to , an organization dedicated to eliminating sexual abuse and misconduct in youth and amateur sports. Their mission is truly inspiring, and we’re honored to be part of that work.

That’s where Agano comes in.

Carrie, the founder of , created the stuffed horse Agano (inspired by her real horse of the same name) as a symbol of comfort and care. Designed to offer solace during difficult moments, he has become a trusted companion for children navigating their path toward recovery.

Thank you again to for the incredible and important work you do.
