Community acupuncture, and acupuncture in general, is part of our dream of awakening people's ability to feel and to sense what is going on in their bodies and the world around them. We don't like to tell people what to do, we like to help them have support so they can have more nuanced ability to create the kind of lifestyle and community they are interested in.

With what's going on in the world on a day to day basis, it's likely we're picking up feelings and thoughts we're not sure how to sort out or dissipate. Sometimes, a good acupuncture session can clear things out in a way that exercise or even talking can't do alone.

We talk a lot about the biopsychosocial model of health. Presumably we're right on target, saying hey, yes, there are many factors impacting your health and pain levels.

Many providers say: indeed, you should do something about that, change your diet, your lifestyle, start taking herbs, start going on walks, be happier, etc. Just listen to me and I'll show you the path.

But then - do people ACTUALLY have the capacity to take this advice? Do they have the financial and practical means to do so?

When we offer community style treatments, low cost sliding scale, and trauma informed practices - we're actually baking in the model into our care. You don't have to do anything, the clinic is doing it for us as soon as we walk in.

You're good enough to make the changes you need, perhaps you just needed some support and an opportunity to start at your pace? If you're tired of feeling like you don't have what it takes, have you considered that a lot of the world is literally stacking the cards against you and it may not fully be your fault?

Acupuncture can stimulate the vagus nerve through ear acupuncture points and other locations on the body, especially through electroacupuncture.

While making a leap of logic like this is fun, there are also studies on acupuncture and Alzheimers disease and the various mechanisms in play - we'll post some more later.

Alzheimer’s disease pathology begins early in a tiny brain region called the locus coeruleus. Emerging research suggests that stimulating the vagus nerve could help regulate this critical area, potentially preventing memory loss and early cognitive aging.
