Our residents came together for a meaningful jewelry-making activity featuring Native American–inspired beads in honor of . Pictured is Linda, who crafted a beautiful shell-beaded bracelet for herself — and another for her granddaughter, who is half Native American.

Gilman Grove is located on the historic Chinook Region, and we’re grateful for opportunities like this to learn, create, and respectfully celebrate Native American heritage while honoring the history of the land we live on.

Larry — now proudly known as “King of the Dots” — has taken his love for dot painting to a whole new level! After attending a dot painting activity a few months ago, he continued practicing on his own and mastering the technique.

This month, he even launched his own dot painting course, and residents are eagerly joining in. We love how mindful this activity is — offering the perfect balance of structure and creativity.

Check out his intricate dot painting masterpieces below! Thank you, Larry, for sharing your talent and inspiring others to create!

This Veterans Day, we were deeply honored to welcome members of Three Rivers VFW Post 1324 Auxiliary Three Rivers VFW Post 1324, who presented our resident veterans with certificates and led a moving flag ceremony with their Honor Guard. The ceremony concluded with the flag being presented to Les, our only World War II veteran, in a touching moment of gratitude and respect.

We also recognized our team member veterans, including our Administrator Todd, a proud Army veteran, who presented special challenge coins in appreciation of their service. The day concluded with the unveiling of our new Wall of Honor, dedicated to the brave residents who have served our nation.

Thank you to all who have served—your courage and sacrifice inspire us every day. ❤️💙

Resident Spotlight: Honoring History Through Service and Storytelling

This Veterans Day month, we’re proud to recognize Jack, a Marine Corps Veteran and resident of Gilman Grove, as our Resident Spotlight. Jack has spent decades collecting and preserving military memorabilia to honor the legacy of those who served before him.

As we recently shared in our post about his donation to the Oregon Military Museum, Jack contributed a remarkable collection — including the 1918 diary of WWI Marine Emil G. Tschanz, his discharge papers, portraits, a war service certificate, and other artifacts capturing vivid moments from the Great War and the signing of the Armistice.

We’re also gearing up to celebrate our veterans right here in the building, honoring their service and sacrifice. A heartfelt thank you to Kathleen, Director of the Oregon Military Museum, for visiting Gilman Grove to personally collect Jack’s treasures — a visit made even more meaningful as she once worked with Jack’s brother, a former resident.

Join us in celebrating Jack, not only for his service to our country, but for his dedication to preserving the stories and sacrifices of Marines throughout history.
