Snowflakes were falling indoors today! ❄️ Residents enjoyed a cozy afternoon cutting paper snowflakes together, sharing creativity, conversation, and plenty of smiles.

Residents enjoyed a wonderful day out at the Oregon City Shopping Center! 🛍️ We kicked things off with some fun shopping at Ross and Dollar Tree, then wrapped up the outing by sitting down together for a delicious lunch at Su Thai Express 🍽️

Great finds, great food, and even better company made this a truly lovely trip!

Thanks to Jack, a proud Marine veteran and resident of Gilman Grove, historically significant Marine Corps items are now preserved at the Oregon Military Museum. This includes a WWI Marine Veteran's journal from 1918. We’re honored to help ensure these powerful stories of service and sacrifice live on for future generations. Join us in celebrating Linda, our amazing Activity Assistant and Bus Driver, as our January Employee Spotlight! Linda brings so much heart and creativity to Gilman Grove every day. She’s crafty, a skilled baker, wonderfully creative, and an incredible listener who is always attentive to the needs of our residents.

From helping in any way she can, to spending time with our quieter, more introverted residents every weekend, Linda makes sure everyone feels seen and valued. Add in her talents as a skilled bartender, expert “dresser-upper,” and the joy she brings to our team, and it’s easy to see why she’s such a treasure to work with.

Please join us in thanking Linda for all that she does. Our community is better because of her! 💙👏

Turn up the volume and enjoy this video of Les G., whose harmonica melodies are often heard echoing through our halls. Les learned to play from his father and grandfather and is now proudly passing that tradition down to his son.

✨ Les is our January Resident Spotlight, and we’re also looking forward to celebrating his 98th birthday later this month! 🎉

A WWII Marine Corps veteran, Les enlisted at just 17, inspired by letters from his older brother who was already serving. He completed boot camp in San Diego, trained at Sonar School, and spent much of his time in the Marines stationed in the Caribbean.

Les is truly a man of many talents—an award-winning bowler who won the 1975 Oregon State Bowling Competition 🏆 and a gifted artist whose paintings reflect the beauty and experiences of his life. You’ll also see a charming photo of Les and his wife from around 1989, dressed in 1910s-inspired fashion, along with his championship bowling trophy.

We’re proud to honor Les not only for his service, but for the joy, creativity, and rich history he brings to our community every day.

Residents, family members, and team members came together for a wonderful evening out at Sayler's Old Country Kitchen, sharing a festive dinner with great company. Our party of 15 enjoyed a delightful feast complete with beverages, steak, onion rings, gizzards and liver, classic relish plates, and sweet treats to top it all off. A warm and memorable way to ring in the new year together! 🎉🍽️

From Spirit Days (Cozy Sweaters, Sequins, and Dress Like Todd!), to creative fun like vision board crafting, sip and paint, jewelry making, baking, and DIY snowflakes, January is packed with ways to connect and celebrate.

We’re also excited for special gatherings like the Tumwata Middle School Choir performance, Book Discussion Group, Town Hall, and plenty of friendly competition with Jeopardy w. “Todd Trebek.”

Plus, don’t miss our outings — shopping trips, tasty lunches, and dinners out make the month even sweeter.

These boards are still a work in progress — and that’s the beauty of it. We’ll be carrying this activity into the new year, taking time to think about what’s gone well, what we want to work on, what’s serving us, and what we’re ready to leave behind.
