Studies have revealed that just 15 minutes in the sauna can increase human growth hormone by up to 150%.
The high temperatures in a sauna create a stressful environment for the body. The stress activates heat shock proteins, which then send signals to the brain. The hypothalamus responds to these signals, which promotes the release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. This leads to a temporary increase in HGG levels in the bloodstream.
Factors influencing the effect 1) higher temperatures and longer sessions, when following by cooling periods, can lead to greater HGH increases; 2) repeated exposure to heat, such as multiple sessions per day for several days, has been shown to have a more profound effect on HGH levels than a single session; and 3) incorporating cooling periods between heat exposures can enhance the hormonal response, as the strategic cycling of hot and cool temperatures activates biological processes that promote hormone release.
HGH helps in the repair of tissues, which can be beneficial during periods of intense training or recovery from injury. HGH plays a role in preserving muscle mass and promoting its growth. The hormone also aids in maintaining bone mass. Additionally, increased HGH levels can improve body composition, sleep and increase exercise performance.
