Play therapy is designed to help children cope with trauma and emotional stress. Our Draper therapists are empathetic, sensitive, and show unconditional support. During therapy sessions children decide which toys to play with and how, and the therapist is there to learn about the children and help them solve problems and foster growth and self-esteem. Please call to learn more or to make an appointment with Dr. Toby Larson for an introductory appointment. 801-390-0969

While often used with children and teens, expressive arts therapy is also valuable for adults. It combines activities like writing, dance, music, and art to help explore feelings and emotions without needing artistic skills. This innovative approach can support mental health for conditions such as stress, anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, and more. https://aspen-wellness.org/services/alternative-therapy/other-therapies/

🕊 Immediate Self-Care After Today’s Tragedy at UVU

Our community is hurting. If you are a student, UVU staff member, parent, family member, friend, first responder, or neighbor impacted by today’s events, please know your feelings are valid. Here are a few strategies you can lean on right now:

✨ Pause & Breathe – Slow your breathing. Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 6. This helps calm the body’s stress response.

✨ Stay Connected – Reach out to someone you trust. Talking with a friend, family member, or counselor can ease feelings of isolation.

✨ Limit Overexposure – Step away from constant news and social media updates. Give your mind space to process.

✨ Ground Yourself – Notice your surroundings: name 5 things you see, 4 things you feel, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you taste.

✨ Practice Gentle Care – Drink water, eat nourishing food, move your body, and rest. Trauma lives in the body—caring for it matters.

✨ Offer Compassion – Be gentle with yourself and others. Everyone processes shock and grief differently.

If you or someone you love is struggling, Aspen Valley Wellness therapists have immediate openings to provide support.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an effective, evidence-based therapy designed to help individuals heal from traumatic experiences. It addresses issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, and personality disorders. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR involves guided eye movements and other bilateral stimulation to help reprocess distressing memories, reducing their emotional impact. This approach enables the brain to naturally convert traumatic memories into less disturbing ones by clearing negative thoughts, beliefs, and images stored in the brain and body. EMDR is particularly beneficial for those dealing with grief, loss, violence, abuse, sexual assault, or substance abuse, promoting emotional resilience and healing. We have excellent therapists in our Orem and Draper locations. Please visit our website to learn more. https://aspen-wellness.org/services/individual-family-therapy/emdr/
