A lesser-known reason to see a therapist or counselor isn’t to “fix” your emotions—it’s to stop them from hijacking your behavior.

At Deseret Counseling, we help people learn how to do this by still feeling anxiety, anger, sadness, or stress, but without reacting to those emotions in ways they later regret.

Because when emotions no longer run the show, decisions get clearer, relationships get healthier, and life feels more manageable.

Healing doesn’t mean you’re “over it.”
It means you’re learning how to carry it differently.

If today feels heavy, that doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means your nervous system is doing its best with what it’s been through.

Small steps count.
Pausing counts.
Reaching out counts.

You don’t have to do this alone.

🚗🐕 Injured in an accident? You’re not alone.

Auto accidents, dog bites, and personal injuries don’t just affect your body — they can impact your sleep, mood, anxiety levels, and sense of safety long after the injury.

At Deseret Counseling, we specialize in helping people recover emotionally after:
• Auto accidents
• Dog bites
• Personal injury trauma

We work with personal injury attorneys and offer lien-based counseling for qualifying cases — meaning no upfront cost for therapy while your case is ongoing.

Our therapists are trained in trauma-focused care, including EMDR, to help with PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, and emotional distress after an injury.

Healing matters. Mental health care is part of recovery.

At Deseret Counseling, we know that life doesn’t come with a pause button.

Stressful days, overwhelming emotions, unexpected setbacks, and long-standing struggles are part of being human—but feeling stuck or constantly overwhelmed doesn’t have to be.

One of the most powerful benefits of counseling is learning better coping skills to help with all of this and more.

In therapy, you gain practical strategies to manage stress, regulate emotions, and respond to challenges in healthier, more effective ways. So instead of reacting on autopilot or feeling controlled by anxiety, anger, or exhaustion, you learn how to slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and choose responses that actually support your well-being.

Mental Health Monday 💙

Okay… the holidays are technically over — but that doesn’t mean the joy has to be.

I recorded this back in December talking about favorite holidays, and honestly? The reasons we love them still matter in January.
Connection. Rest. Traditions. Feeling grounded.

If you’re feeling that post-holiday slump, here’s your reminder:
✨ You don’t have to wait for a holiday to create moments you enjoy.
✨ You’re allowed to bring fun, warmth, and meaning into the middle of winter.

So tell me—what’s your favorite holiday and why?
Let’s keep a little joy going into the new year.

📘Books I highly recommend are a must read.

The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt explains how childhood quietly shifted from play-based to phone-based—and why anxiety, depression, and loneliness followed.

This isn’t about blaming phones.
It’s about understanding what changed—and what we can do better.

As we step into 2026, there’s something powerful to our clients and therapists alike about the idea of a clean slate. That's because a new year can feel like a fresh page — an invitation to release what didn’t serve us, set intentions rooted in self-growth, and lean into healing, one step at a time.

Of course, a new year doesn’t erase the past — but it does offer the chance to rewrite your story with intention, courage, and compassion.

So whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, or the everyday stress that piles up over time, our help can be the guiding support that turns uncertainty into confidence and resilience.

Our licensed therapists are here to walk alongside you in creating healthier patterns, stronger relationships, and a deeper sense of peace.

We love sitting down with Duke students 💙
Hearing what they’re studying, what lights them up, and the advice they’d give their younger selves is always powerful. Growth, perspective, and wisdom in real time ✨
