Here is a basic daily skincare routine for just about anyone:
1) Cleanser - Only use gentle cleanser if possible. Only use acne cleanser with salicylic acid or benzyl peroxide for active breakouts, and not for prolonged periods of time unless directed by a dermatologist.
2) Rose Water - Use this instead of toner, because toner typically strips the acid mantle. You don't need that. On the other hand, rose water has healing properties.
3) Hyaluronic Acid - This magical serum is the consistency of water and holds 1000x its weight in water within the cells, locking in your moisturizers that you will apply next.
4) Power Ingredient - This is a powerful substance you add to the skin as the "game changer." Some of my favorites include retinol, vitamin c serum, or peptide serums. This power ingredient may vary depending on whether it's night or day, or depending on your skin condition. Visit an esthetician or dermatologist to get you pointed in the right direction for power ingredients that are right for your skin type.
5) Eye cream - Choose one that suits your skin type.
6) Moisturizer - During the day, include SPF 30 or higher with your moisturizer. During the night, you may like a thicker formula for your moisturizer than you used for the day. If you have very oily or acne prone skin you DO still need a moisturizer, but a lighter formula may be better for you.
Weekly, you can add a special at-home face mask to your skincare regimen. There are so many masks out there that are fun to try and they feel great! You don't want to overdo the masks, though, because they are expensive and at times can strip the acid mantle if used too often.
Monthly, it's advisable to do treatments at a professional spa because you can do special work there that is a lot harder to achieve at home, such as microdermabrasion, microneedling, waxing, facials, etc. These treatments can help lessen hyperpigmentation, reduce fine lines and scars, remove unwanted facial hair, stimulate your circulation, and serve you with a myriad of other benefits. Plus, nothing beats the relaxation of having time to yourself to take care of your skin at the spa. If you want to set an appointment with us, please feel free to call us at 801-616-7011.
