Today we celebrate my daughter Paris’s 5 year sobriety date.
She is a true miracle and only here by God’s grace. We are so very blessed and appreciative for every minute spent with her.
She’s working out every day, working on her diet and really focusing on her career and being the healthiest version of herself.
She just went through a very hard break up that quite frankly in the past might have sent her over the edge.
Without any prompting from us, she sought extra help, went to church, meetings, read books, contacted her doctors for guidance and med changes. Increased her counseling and did literally everything she could think of to stay on the right track.
I feel it’s always important to mention she technically has almost 9 years sobriety, with a few relapses mixed in. At one point she had 13 months.
I mention this because I want anyone struggling with substance abuse or family members with loved ones struggling with addiction to understand that rarely does someone get consistently sober in the first try or maybe even the 15th try.
So do not be discouraged. Hold your head high.
Think of all the days you have abstained, think about the reasons you relapsed, seek God, pray, keep trying different things. Don’t give up if it didn’t work the first time.
Seek detox facilities, rehabs, different online and in person sobriety programs, sober coaches, mentors or sponsors, counseling, psychiatric care, health coaching, check hormone and vitamin levels, check your thyroid. Many things can lead to depression and anxiety.
Watch motivational speakers, listen to anything that helps you improve your health or finances.
Financial stress can be a big trigger and doing all you can to become healthier in this area eases your stress.
If it’s your loved that is the one struggling, help them with their recovery process, help them form a detailed plan, take them to meetings, go with them to counseling appointments, and doctor appointments. They need a ton of handholding and support even if they are fighting it.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, never give up hope while there is breath in their body.
Praying for blessings, and strength for all of you.
