Honored to have my commentary featured in the Orlando Sentinel this past Sunday. Substance use disorders are complex health conditions, not personal failings. To truly support those suffering—and the co-occurring issues that accompany them—we must move beyond the current approaches as the only standard of care. It is time to prioritize compassionate, evidence-based methods like CBT and related therapies, and programs like SMART Recovery as options.
