Twin Tips From Your Favorite Postpartum Doula 🌿
Having a baby can be overwhelming, but two, even three babies at one time? Let’s just take a deep breath together and break things down a little.
✨ Feed together when you can: Tandem feeding (breast, bottle, or combo) can save time and maximize rest—but it takes setup and practice. Pillows, positioning, and support matter. Connect with your local IBCLC for feeding support if you find yourself struggling. Exclusively breastfeeding twins is possible if that’s your goal! 🫶🏼
✨ It’s okay if twins eat differently: Different appetites, latch styles, and schedules are normal. You’re not doing anything wrong if one baby needs more time or support. Give yourself grace, our babies are learning along with us.
✨ Tag-team nights when possible: Split shifts, alternate feeds, or hire that overnight help (*wink, wink*). Sleep deprivation hits harder with multiples—rest is essential, not optional.
✨ Watch your babies, not the clock: Twin schedules are helpful tools, not strict rules. Follow cues first, then gently shape routines that work for your family.
✨ Set up two stations: Diapering, feeding, and soothing areas on multiple floors (or rooms) reduce exhaustion and unnecessary trips.
✨ Accept help without guilt: Meals, laundry, holding a baby—yes please. Support allows bonding, healing, and smoother days.
✨ Protect postpartum recovery: Your body still birthed babies—plural or not. Hydration, nourishment, and rest are non-negotiable parts of care.
✨ Mental health matters: Twin parents may face higher overwhelm. Having someone notice you and step in early can change everything. Keeping a list of providers like local support groups and mental health therapists, especially those specializing in postpartum and family matters is beneficial. We cannot thrive in isolation—especially in motherhood.
A postpartum doula doesn’t just help with babies—we help the whole family system stay supported, grounded, and cared for. Here’s to cheering you on, especially at 2am, because this parenting thing can be hard, no matter what your journey looks like. 💚
