Last week, I had the opportunity to provide an in-service for the neurology residents at HCA Florida Osceola Hospital on the clinical approach to dysphagia in neuromuscular and movement disorders.

We discussed disease-specific swallowing presentations, clinical reasoning, and considerations for instrumental assessment. Always meaningful to engage in interdisciplinary learning that supports better neurologic patient care.

This week I had the pleasure of visiting for a Lunch & Learn — an informal Q&A about how Integrated Neuro Speech Therapy can support adults with neurologic conditions.

It was great to answer questions, share real-world examples, and chat about ways to support patients with cognition, communication, voice, and swallowing challenges.

🧠 Concussions are invisible injuries with lasting impact

Concussions are considered mild traumatic brain injuries that can significantly impact cognition, communication, and daily functioning.

Symptoms may include:
⚡ Persistent headache or pressure
⚡ Cognitive changes (slowed processing, poor memory, difficulty concentrating)
⚡ Vestibular symptoms (dizziness, imbalance, blurred vision)
⚡ Sensory sensitivity (light/noise)
⚡ Altered sleep or fatigue

Clinical recommendations if concussion is suspected:
✅ Immediately discontinue physical or cognitive exertion
✅ Seek prompt evaluation from a medical professional trained in brain injury management
✅ Adhere to individualized recovery protocols before returning to work, school, or sport

The brain requires time and care to heal — early recognition and management make all the difference.
