With pride and gratitude, Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute announces the official retirement of Dr. Muhammad Jawad.

With a career spanning more than 40 years, and with more than 9,600 life-changing metabolic procedures under his belt, Dr. Jawad set a standard of excellence in surgical care, becoming of Florida's most respected and renowned bariatric surgeons. During his time as Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute's medical director, Dr. Jawad also published more than 60 articles in medical journals and frequently presented his research at medical conferences in the U.S. and abroad.

A recognized authority in laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Jawad is also known for his expertise in complex biliary, colon and endocrine surgery.

Dr. Jawad's work has empowered thousands of individuals, not only from Florida, but from across the globe, to reclaim their health and confidence. Today, his legacy lives on in every patient he’s helped, every surgeon he’s mentored — including the institute's current medical director, Dr. Andre Teixeira — and every life he’s impacted.

A lifetime of dieting, weight gain and unhealthy eating eventually took a toll on Dorsey's body, making everyday tasks like folding laundry and washing her car difficult.

Then after a routine checkup, her primary care physician gave her the news: She was 345 pounds and going into liver failure.
