collecting the last of our harvest as we enter the element of metal and the season of fall.

mourning what was the abundance and fertility of spring and summer, its bursting blossoms and yummy yields. and now we prepare our bodies for the grief of what once was.

so if you’re feeling a little melancholy these days, that is why.

we are not separate from nature, we are a mirror or it.

we either work with nature or we work against it. the choice is ours to make.

honor your grief or sadness as you would for a loved one.

In , the Five Element Theory is a profound concept that guides us to understand the interconnectedness of nature and our bodies.

Summer, the season of warmth and abundant energy, represents the peak of the Fire element.

Just like the sun radiates its brilliance, this season ignites our spirits with enthusiasm and joy.

The Fire element symbolizes passion, connection, and transformation.

Known as the most masculine of the five elements, it is considered the utmost yang.

Associated with Mars, the intense red planet, and the summer season, Fire is characterized by heat, growth, warmth, and increased light.

Connected to the heart and small intestines, Fire represents qualities of brightness and upward movement, the emotion of joy, and the sound of laughter.

The summer season is a time for us to nurture our hearts, build meaningful relationships, and express our emotions openly.

The heart's harmonious balance is vital for overall physical and emotional well-being.

When the Fire element is in balance, we feel a sense of vitality, contentment, and emotional stability.

When we look at a fire it emits a flickering glow, transforming substances into ash and smoke as it consumes them.

The appearance can be captivating and beautiful, yet it demands caution and respect due to its potential for danger.

These same sentiments can be used when thinking about what this element would feel like if unbalanced in your body.

It may appear as anxiety, intense reactions, heart and circulatory issues, lack of focus, and central nervous system disorders.

Fire resonates with profound emotional significance, symbolizing passion, love, and joy.

Its essence emanates outward, embracing the world with exuberant enthusiasm, expansiveness, and a yearning for warm connections and interactions.

When Fire is harmoniously balanced, it reflects the image of a flower in full bloom, exuding its innate nature and vitality.

Look for our next blog post that shares more information on nurturing your inner Fire.

Let this season inspire you to cultivate your inner Fire, ignite your passions, and bring positive changes to your life.

The wood element is a crucial component of five element theory and represents the energy of growth and expansion.

When this element is in balance, we are able to pursue our goals with confidence and adapt to change.

The wood element represents the energy of growth, expansion, and transformation.

This element is associated with the season of spring, an energetic time in nature full of renewal and rebirth.

The wood element represents our liver {and gallbladder} in Chinese medicine, which are responsible for detoxifying the body, regulating the flow of energy (qi) and creating the ability to make major decisions.

When the wood element is in balance, we feel a sense of purpose and direction in our lives.

We are able to set goals and pursue them with confidence and determination. We feel creative and inspired, and are able to express ourselves freely.

We are also able to adapt to change and are open to new experiences.

However, when the wood element is out of balance, we can experience a range of physical and emotional symptoms.

For example, if the liver is imbalanced we may experience digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, eye problems, or skin issues.

On an emotional level, we may feel stuck, frustrated, or angry. We may also struggle with decision-making and lack direction in our lives.

To balance the wood element, there are several things we can do. We can stay active and engage in activities that challenge us.

This could be anything from hiking, to taking a new class, to starting a new hobby. We also need to make sure we are eating a healthy diet that includes plenty of green vegetables, lean meats, pickled vegetables and other sour foods.

It is also important to practice stress-reducing techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.

Keep your eyes peeled for our next blog post to learn more on how you can continue to stay in rhythm with spring and the wood element. 🪵🌱♻️

Just like the passing of seasons, our own bodies experience cycles and rhythms that are directly connected to the natural world.

There are five specific elements considered to directly tie to our physical health. In traditional Chinese medicine, there's a name for this ideology: five element theory.

Upon observing patterns in nature, ancient Chinese healers and philosophers charted a natural cycle that was believed to impact all things -- our health, our daily lives, changes in seasons, etc.

More specifically, this ideology centered on five fundamental, natural materials: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.

It was believed that these materials represented the five ways that qi (energy) moves and impacts our health.

In other words, humans and all of our inner workings are the manifestation of these five elements and how they behave. Thus, five element theory was born.
