Willow Lane Counseling is excited to welcome Aimee Miller!  Aimee is currently accepting new clients.

Aimee believes it is a privilege to be a helper—a trusted person children and families can turn to when life feels scary, overwhelming, or uncertain. She values creating a space where kids and parents can find comfort, clarity, and support. Whether it’s celebrating victories or offering a listening ear on tough days, Aimee feels counseling is the best job in the world.

Aimee works with children ages 3–12 and provides parent coaching and support. She has specialized experience supporting children who are D/deaf or Hard of Hearing, Gifted, Twice-Exceptional, and Neurodivergent, as well as those navigating challenges with executive functioning, anxiety, depression, and friendships.

Outside the counseling room, Aimee can usually be found chasing adventures with her toddler and husband.

Back-to-school season can feel a lot like a roller coaster 🎢—full of ups, downs, twists, and turns.

Kids (and parents!) may feel excitement one moment and nervousness the next. Both are completely normal.

As the first day approaches, notice your child’s shifting emotions and remind them it’s okay to feel more than one thing at a time. 💛

✨ What feelings are showing up in your home this week—excitement, nerves, or a mix of both? Share below so we can encourage each other!

As kids settle into new camp routines, attend more sleepovers, head to sleepaway camp, and spend more time online, it’s important to revisit conversations about body boundaries and safety. Most often, children are sexually abused by someone they know and trust.

While these talks can feel uncomfortable, they don’t have to be overwhelming. Look for everyday moments to re-engage the conversation.

Knowledge is power. When children understand their bodies, boundaries, and appropriate touch, they’re better equipped to protect themselves.

Terms like dysregulation, co-regulation, and attunement are often used in the mental health space—but they’re not always clearly explained, especially in ways that show how they affect emotion regulation and child development.

These books dive into the WHY behind behavior, shedding light on what’s happening inside us—often the parts we can’t see or kids don’t yet have the words for.

At Willow Lane Counseling, we want parents to feel confident and supported in their parenting journey. That’s why we’ve put together a list of books that not only explain these concepts clearly, but do so in a way that’s relatable and easy to understand.

June 1st marks the start of hurricane season. Here in Central Florida, storms are a familiar part of life. While we can’t predict exactly what each hurricane season will bring, there are steps we can take to be prepared.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you support your family:

💬 Be Open to Questions
Let your children know they can come to you with questions. Offer simple, age-appropriate, and factual answers to help them feel informed and reassured.

🧰 Involve Your Kids
Give your children age-appropriate ways to help—like prepping your emergency kit, checking flashlight batteries, or choosing low-tech activities to enjoy if the power goes out.

🛡️ Reassure Their Safety
Storms can feel scary, but remind your children that you’re there to protect them—and that many community helpers are ready to support families in times of need.

📵 Limit Media Exposure
While staying informed is important, too much news or storm coverage can increase anxiety. Be mindful of what your children see and hear, including your own conversations around them.

💖 Take Care of Yourself
This season can be stressful. Make space for your own needs and self-care. Children look to their caregivers for how to respond in uncertain times—they’ll often mirror your calm and preparedness.

Here in Central Florida, summer break has begun. With any transition, a mix of emotions often comes along.

The school year brings structure not just for kids, but for parents too, so shifting to a new routine can be an adjustment for the whole family.

As you settle into summer, here are a few tips to help make the transition smoother:

🔹Set Realistic Expectations
It’s easy to imagine a picture-perfect summer filled with activities, adventures, and quality time. Every day doesn’t have to be packed or perfect. Give yourself and your children grace as you adjust.

🔹Expect a Range of Emotions
Children might feel everything from excitement to boredom to frustration as they navigate more downtime, new experiences, or missing their school friends.

🔹Help Kids Know What to Expect
Whether it’s a new day camp, overnight camp, or vacation spot, talking through what’s ahead can ease anxiety.

🔹Keep an Eye on Screen Time
Set clear and consistent boundaries around screen use. Balancing tech time with play, rest, and family connection is key.

Wishing your family a summer filled with joy, flexibility, and meaningful moments!
