A delayed announcement because honestly we were at a loss for words.

😍 WE WERE VOTED THE BEST NEW THING IN ORLANDO 😭

For over five years, a collective of peers lovingly worked towards opening the first ever peer respite in Central Florida. It was done with SO many obstacles and in loving memory of our Founding Board President, Eva Fajardo, letting her legacy and vision for a better mental health system live on.

We did it! We opened last year. Years in the making - we created peer support resources, tirelessly fundraised and developed, and educated on the importance of mental health resources that are led for and by those with lived experience. It was a long road to get to opening and SO much love has been poured into Eva’s Casita by our team since opening last year. It means so much for the hard work to not go unseen.

The outpouring of support we have received for Eva’s Casita, largely from our guests, feels like a warm hug and reassurance that we’re doing the right thing. We are deeply grateful for those that make up our community and those that give generously making this work possible.

We are so excited and humbled to have become something that individuals voted is the Best New Thing in our community. Many deserving initiatives were nominated, it was an honor to stand alongside them.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ORLANDO!!! We love yall so much. 🫶🏽

Please share this post so more individuals can find our space and learn just why people think we’re the best new thing. 🥹

Introducing to you 🥁🥁🥁

✨Eva’s Closet✨!

A magical space tucked in the heart of Eva’s Casita where our community can explore their style and selves at no cost in a cozy and uplifting environment!

This mural is weeks in the making and was designed with the inspiration of sunflowers. Much like when times are dark and community turns to one another, when there is no sun sunflowers literally face each other.

A huge thank you to our leading artist Kim Murphy and the many community members, guests, and respite supporters who all helped this project! A special thank you to all who donated some of their favorite items for our closet as well!

If you would like to tour Eva’s Casita DM us, we are doing a week long tour-a-thon in November and would love to have you.

Request a free respite, a break from life for up to a week with optional supportive activities at tinyurl.com/respitestay

This month we enjoyed each other’s company and a guided “Adult Lunchable” Workshop where we explored how cutely presented snacks can help us nourish ourselves and be fun to make!

Thanks so much to all that joined! If you’ve stayed at Eva’s Casita before and want to join our next Guest Reunion Day, DM us for the link to register.

We are looking to create a nonjudgemental space where those with cancer can build a support system and connect with others that have shared lived experiences. Currently, it’s looking like a space that will center younger friends with cancer (currently or in the past) ages 18-45, while welcoming adults of all ages.

Peer groups are nonclinical spaces to build a support system where big feelings are welcomed that are led for and by those with lived experience.

What could that look like? Well that’s up to you!

We’re calling on those that currently have cancer, have had cancer, or loved ones (loved ones will be welcomed into the space dependent on input from those with cancer) to share what you would like out of a space like this.

✨ What are you hoping to get out of this space?
✨ Any fun group names?
✨ What kind of activities or topics would you be interested in?
✨ How can we help you feel comfortable in this space?
✨ and more!

To share your input (as much or little as you’d like) please visit: tinyurl.com/newcancergroup

If you do not want to share input but want to be notified when this group launches, please put your email into the survey and skip the rest.
[Image Description: “We’re starting a peer-led cancer group!” is written in bubbly yellow letters up top. Underneath, in bubbly teal letters “and we need your input” is written. The survey link to share input is given, “tinyurl.com/newcancergroup”. The background is pink with white checkered lines. Cartoon flowers are included. Also included is the logo for Peer Support Space.]
