Had a great time hosting Jimmie Johnson and the Legacy Racing Team with Rob Deinger (CEO of AdventHealth Orlando) at the AdventHealth Training Center - Downtown Orlando.

Jimmie taught us about the training and recovery needs of race car drivers (there is no power steering), how to stay hydrated during a 4+ hour race, and the mental focus necessary to win and avoid a devastating crash. 🏎

We were excited to share how AdventHealth and the Orlando Magic crafted this state-of-the-art facility in which we fused cutting edge resources with time-tested treatment strategies under one roof in order to optimize recovery, sports performance, and injury prevention. 🏀🏈⚽️⚾️🥎🏒🎾⛳️

Jimmie had a chance to shoot some baskets while telling us about the narrow loss to Shaquille O' Neal in a free throw contest. 🏀 The bet was that if Shaq won, he would get to design Jimmie's car at the Daytona 500. If Jimmie won the bet, he would choose Shaq's outfit for race day. Well, the Orlando Magic stripes and Shaq's Dunkman logo look great on the #84 Carvana Racing Car!

We really enjoyed creating this video for the 2024 International Pathfinder Camporee. It was a fantastic opportunity to share our excitement and passion for our career in sports medicine with 60,000 teenagers who attended the International Camporee in Gillette, Wyoming.

Great job, Je'Chaun and Mia, as the hosts of this video segment. Our future is in great hands with you and other young people like you in the program!

Would you like to hear Tommy John, the legendary baseball pitcher, talk about what it was like to recover from the elbow ulnar collateral ligament surgery that bears his name?

Here is your chance to meet him in person! On January 13-15, 2024, AdventHealth and the Orlando Magic are presenting The Next Level Sports Medicine Conference at the AdventHealth Celebration Nicholson Center and Tommy John will be one of our two Keynote Speakers!

I first met Tommy in 2012 when I was a team physician and Tommy John surgeon for the Boston Red Sox. From 2012 to 2015, Tommy and I lectured together at the Cooperstown Baseball Shoulder & Elbow Course. My topic was on “How to Perform the Tommy John Surgery”, and he spoke about “What it was like to recover from Tommy John Surgery”. We are both excited for our reunion and to share updates on how best to treat and avoid adolescent overuse injuries in baseball.

Another baseball expert who will join us as a Keynote Speaker is Dr. Michael G. Ciccotti, Sr, who is the Medical Director for the Philadelphia Phillies and Chief of Sports Medicine at Rothman Orthopaedic Institute. He will deliver a Keynote Lecture on “The Past, The Present, and The Future of Sports Medicine Through the Eyes of the Team Physician.” Dr. Ciccotti is a selfless leader and a personal mentor to me, and I know that his message and style of communication will resonate and inspire all of us.

In addition to baseball injuries, our faculty of experts from Rothman Orthopaedics Florida and AdventHealth Orlando will review the recent advancements in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention strategies for various overhead sports. There will be lively debates and panel discussions as well as an autograph signing session by Tommy John!
