What began as hives during a summer vacation quickly became something more serious for Nate. When a growing mass in his neck led his family to AdventHealth for Children, they were searching for answers. What they found was a care team that saw Nate as more than a patient.
After testing revealed a fist-size tumor in his neck and a positive gene for paragangliomas, Nate’s journey became complex. Over the course of one week, he underwent 3 procedures totaling 20+ hours of surgery to remove the tumor.
The road to recovery was long. For 3 months, he couldn’t swallow or eat. Healing took time, patience, and support.
Step by step, Nate began to heal. After a month in the hospital, he returned home. Over time, his voice came back, growing stronger until it fully returned last month. Today, Nate is back on the soccer field, doing what he loves most.
Through it all, his family never felt alone. Guided by faith and supported by a compassionate team, they found reassurance in every call, every answered question, and every moment of care. His mom, Anna, shared, “Dr. Lopez and his staff were amazing. I don’t know how I would have gotten through this without their support. Dr. Lopez has a true calling for this work. He cared for Nate like he was his own child, not just as a patient, but as someone deeply valued.”
At AdventHealth for Children, we walk with families through life’s toughest moments, so they can move forward feeling whole.
