MESSAGE FROM Dr Martorell
This date last year, I crossed the finish line at the 2025 London Marathon. Back then, I accepted the challenge to train and run those never ending 26.1 miles for a personal cause.

However, this November the 1st, I accepted a new challenge, the challenge to cross the New York City Marathon finish line with a team of 24 other runners but this time for a public cause. This time I am running to help our patients and love ones who suffer from lupus.

My mission: To raise $5000 for the Lupus Research Alliance to fund new treatments and a cure for lupus.

Help me and be part of this inspiring journey in support of the Lupus Research Alliance! This incredible organization is leading the fight to transform the lives of those affected by lupus through groundbreaking scientific discoveries and driving the search for new diagnostic tests, treatments, prevention, and ultimately a cure.

LRA-funded researcher Gregg Silverman, MD, NYU Grossman School of Medicine, is the lead author on a new study published in the prestigious journal Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases.

The research team discovered how an overgrowth of a common bacteria found in the intestines, helps drive dangerous flare‑ups in people with lupus nephritis.
These insights help advance our understanding of lupus and offer potentially new intervention approaches.

Promising progress in lupus!

The FDA has accepted the application from Genentech for Gazyva® as a potential treatment for SLE.

Phase 3 data show significantly reduced disease activity and sustained disease control with less steroid use. An FDA decision is expected by December 2026.
