Walmart will close all of its health care clinics

I have mixed feelings on this.

-----

Some notes from the article:

“We determined there is not a sustainable business model for us to continue,” the company said.

Ateev Mehrotra (professor of health care policy and medicine at Harvard Medical School) said Walmart’s closures reflect the challenges for primary care providers in the United States.

-----

I agree.

Walmart's health clinics were attempting to meet a need for an undeserved population. People who don't access care and have chronic conditions who need to.

The choice to close this endeavor demonstrates the business difficulties facing effectively addressing primary care.

This is why I believe in Direct Primary Care and why I continue to work as a DPC physician. The DPC, membership based model for primary care, lowers costs for patients and the healthcare system as a whole! It provides a better way to receive care as a patient and to provide care as a doctor.

Article:

Walmart, the largest retailer in the United States, will close all 51 of its health care clinics in six states and end virtual health care services, the company said Tuesday.

In case you missed this GREAT news:

In the mid-1960s: 42% of U.S. adults were smokers.

I love hot noodles, as I am sure you do. Be aware when preparing or eating instant noodles around children.

Instant noodles are a major cause of childhood scald injuries!

Instant noodle burns accounted for 1/3 of all pediatric scald admissions at the University of Chicago Medicine between 2010 and 2020, according to a study published in the journal Burns.

Of the 790 total cases reviewed by the team, 31% were attributed to instant noodles.

Nearly one-third of pediatric scald burn admissions over a 10-year period at UChicago Medicine were caused by instant noodles.

Cutting social media use to an hour a day leads to better mental health!

From the study:
"This is the first adequately powered study to demonstrate that a
brief intervention involving smartphone-based SMU reduction of
approximately 50% from baseline may be a feasible and effective
method of improving appearance and weight esteem among youth
with emotional distress."

Just my little thoughts: Focus your energy into building relationships in person; prioritize these relationships over those we rarely interact with in person.

Regardless of gender, the team says the rapid intervention brings significant improvements in distressed youth who excessively scroll.

We all know activity is good for us.

This study found that those who exercised experienced less severe COVID infections, compared to those who didn't (even if they had pre-existing conditions)!

I encourage you to seek out excuses for activity rather than time for exercise. Park further away from the store, take a walk around the park, use the stairs, ride you bike, and more...

People who were active before their COVID infection had a lower risk of severe health outcomes.
