Real growth comes from letting go of what’s not in alignment with who YOU are. That means:
❌ Releasing the need to please everyone
❌ Saying “no” to what drains you—without guilt
❌ Dropping the belief that your worth comes from perfectionism or constant achievement

Here’s the truth:
Running yourself into the ground to prove your worth doesn’t earn you respect—it burns you out.
You’re unique. Protect your energy. Set boundaries. Lead yourself toward what YOU actually want.

🩺 Nursing is part of who you are. When you grow as a person, you grow as a nurse. And when you grow as a nurse, you start changing the culture for everyone around you.

Follow for support that grows you as a human, not just a nurse—real talk, personal growth, and culture-shifting strategies they never taught you in school.

You’re allowed to say “no”—and your mental health depends on it.

Here’s what no one tells new nurses:

Every time you say “yes” to something that drains you,
you’re saying “no” to your peace, your growth, and your energy.

🧠 Research shows that learning to say no respectfully is directly linked to lower anxiety and stronger self-worth.
(Source: Smith et al., 2013, Journal of Counseling Psychology)

And yet…
In a culture that worships self-sacrifice and perfection, nurses are taught to feel guilty for setting boundaries.

Not here.

At Sarah Broderick, LLC, I teach new nurses how to lead with emotional intelligence, intuition, and inner strength—so they stop people-pleasing and start protecting their energy.

Because saying “no” doesn’t make you selfish.
It makes you well.

Most new nurses don’t quit because of the work.
They quit because of the people.

Yep, I said it. And the research backs it up.

Somehow, a profession built on caring has a major problem with caring for its own. I’ve been bullied, I’ve watched it happen to others, and I’ve lost count of how many incredible new nurses I’ve seen pushed out by toxic culture.

Here’s the truth:
✅ Clinical skills come with time.
✅ Good judgment is built through experience.
❌ But toxic behavior? That should never be part of the job.

That’s why I focus on teaching the human side of nursing—emotional intelligence, confidence, and boundaries that protect your energy and keep you standing strong, even when things feel stacked against you.

If you’re in those first years of nursing and finding yourself second-guessing, walking on eggshells, or dealing with subtle (or not-so-subtle) bullying—you don’t have to figure it out alone.

💥 5 things nobody told you about nursing (but you need to know):

Most new nurses think success is about memorizing every lab value, every med, every protocol. But here’s the truth—what really makes or breaks you in this career isn’t in your textbooks.

⚡ It’s your energy.
⚡ Your presence.
⚡ How you carry yourself when everything feels like chaos.

That’s why I teach the human side of nursing—the leadership, intuition, and energy skills no one prepared you for (but everyone will notice).

Because the loudest person in the room isn’t always the leader.
The most grounded one is.

When I was a new nurse, I didn’t just doubt my skills—I doubted myself.

I thought I had to prove something to deserve respect.
I thought anxiety was just part of the job.
I thought burnout meant I was weak.

But here's the truth no one told me:
💥 Your beliefs create your experience.
Not your skills. Not your resume. Not your preceptor’s opinion.

If you believe you’re powerless, you’ll shrink.
If you believe you’re just “the new nurse,” you’ll play small.
If you believe you’re here to lead… you’ll rise differently.

This is the shift I mentor new nurses through every day.
Because personal growth isn’t optional in this field—it’s the foundation.

✨ You don’t need to wait 5 years to feel confident.
✨ You don’t need to earn your worth.
✨ You don’t need to play small to be accepted.

You just need to rewire the story—and lead from within.

What Does Personal Growth Have to Do with Nursing?
Everything.

Nursing isn’t just what you do—it becomes part of who you are.
It shows up in how you think, how you speak, and how you carry yourself—even outside the hospital walls.

Once you become a nurse, people introduce you that way. They come to you with questions, with fears, with their stories. It becomes a part of your identity—whether you expected it or not.

And while nursing school taught you how to pass exams, it didn’t teach you how to lead yourself when things get real. It didn’t teach you how to regulate your emotions after a traumatic code, how to set boundaries with toxic coworkers, or how to hold compassion without falling apart.

That’s where personal growth comes in.

Because being a great nurse isn’t just about clinical skills.
It’s about emotional strength, spiritual awareness, and the kind of self-leadership that lets you stay calm in chaos and grounded in purpose.

You’ll witness humanity in its rawest form.
You’ll be cracked open by grief, by joy, by pressure, and by beauty.
You’ll be stretched in ways you never expected—and if you don’t grow with it, the job will consume you.

So yes, personal growth is nursing growth.
Because the stronger you are, the more grounded, compassionate, and effective you’ll be at the bedside—and in life.

🩺 Did You Know?
Research from workplace bullying expert Charlotte Rayner shows that most nurse bullying stems from power imbalances—usually from higher-ups, not peers.
When this behavior is tolerated, it breeds a culture of fear that destroys morale, wrecks retention, and erodes psychological safety.

Why this matters for new nurses:

Bullies don’t always yell—sometimes they exclude, gossip, or micro-jab until your spirit’s crushed.

When leadership stays silent, it signals that mistreatment is normal.

Eventually, you start doubting your voice, your worth, and even your future in nursing.

When I was a brand-new nurse at 21, this happened to me.
And when I finally spoke up, it only made things worse—because no one teaches you how complex this stuff really is.

Now?
I mentor new nurses through it.
So, you have the skills, strategic tools, and real support to not just survive bullying—but rise in your power, confidence, and calm.

Don’t go numb to the negativity.
Empower yourself.
Speak to yourself like someone worth listening to.

Lead with love—not because the world always deserves it, but because you do.

When you stay rooted in kindness and clarity, you don’t just feel better—
you attract better.

It’s easier to lead.
Easier to grow.
Easier to show up as the nurse—and human—you’re meant to be.

✨ And whether you realize it or not… you’re inspiring others every step of the way.

⚡ Follow along for bold, human-centered support that helps you protect your peace, lead with clarity, and stop normalizing abuse in nursing.

A 2018 study published in Frontiers in Psychology found that nurses with high emotional intelligence experienced significantly less burnout—even when they faced intense negative emotions like anger or sadness at work. Emotional intelligence literally buffered the emotional toll.

Why It Matters for You:
Nurses with strong emotional intelligence don’t absorb the emotional overload—they filter it.
When emotional intensity hits, they stay calmer, clearer, and more present.

Emotional intelligence helps nurses:
✔️ Recognize and regulate their own emotions
✔️ Communicate more effectively under pressure
✔️ Build stronger patient and team relationships
✔️ Lower the risk of compassion fatigue and turnover

✨ Follow along for support that helps you grow as a human, not just a nurse—
with eclectic twists, wisdom, and unconventional tools that actually make a difference.
