In this deeply moving testimonial, a psychiatrist bravely shares her personal journey with severe depression and bipolar disorder—and the moment when traditional medications stopped working. Despite her clinical expertise, she found herself struggling in silence, facing profound despair and confronting thoughts she never imagined she would experience.
In her darkest moment, she reached out for help at Central Florida Behavioral Hospital, where she received compassionate, expert care—including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), an evidence-based treatment that can be life-changing for individuals with treatment-resistant depression.
Her story is a powerful reminder that mental illness does not discriminate, that even those who care for others sometimes need care themselves—and that hope and healing are possible, even when it feels like all options are gone.
If you or someone you love is struggling, you are not alone. Help is available. Recovery is real.

Our team was proud to participate in the Challenge 22 Veterans Su***de Prevention Walk, a 2.2-mile walk representing the 22 veterans we lose each day to su***de.
The event provided an important opportunity to raise awareness, honor those lost and reinforce the importance of su***de prevention and mental health support for our veteran community. We were honored to connect with Austin Arthur, Board President of Challenge 22. Rashad Bryant and Peter Cook with Central Florida Behavioral Hospital were there to help raise awareness and support our veteran community.
Events like this remind us that behind every statistic is a life, a family and a story. Supporting veteran mental health requires continued awareness, compassion and access to care—and it takes all of us working together.
We are grateful to stand alongside community partners committed to prevention, support and hope for our veterans. If you or a loved one is struggling, help is available. Please visit https://bit.ly/452y6eh or call 407-264-7676 today.

Central Florida Behavioral Hospital opened in the Fall of 2008 with the mission to provide the kind of healthcare that patients recommend to their families and friends, physicians prefer for their patients, and in which our employees take great pride.
We believe in people’s innate capacity for healing and growth. With proper help and treatment, people suffering from mental health disorders and co-occurring substance abuse disorders have an excellent opportunity for recovery. Our seven-acre campus in Orlando, Florida provides patients with an environment that is serene and homelike, and the semi-tropical climate of Florida allows for year-round outdoor activities.
