The power of liposuction, tummy tuck, and fat transfer for contouring.

People often cringe or shy away when we bring up fat transfer to the buttocks, or a BBL. This is not about giving women a large behind (unless that's what you want) but rather to give shape! Liposuction and fat transfer is used to reshape and contour the trunk, so that everything flows harmoniously and a beautiful silhouette is created. Like this lady, for example.

After massive weight loss, patients come in to have certain body areas rejuvenated, including but not limited to:

- Arms/Forearms
- Chest/Breasts
- Upper Back
- Abdomen
- Buttocks
- Thighs/Calves
- Face/Neck (which I do not do since I focus exclusively on breast/body)

Not every patient will be bothered enough to undergo surgery for each of these body areas. On the other hand, many do and this is where a comprehensive plan is very important!

In my practice, the minimum number of surgeries - or stages - to address all these areas is 2 (excluding the face). This usually consists of an upper body lift (arms, breast, back) and a lower body lift (abdomen, buttocks, thighs).

However, select patients will require more than two operations due to their specific circumstances. These patients include those who have lost more than 200 lb, because their skin is so elastic it requires removal of loose skin in different directions at different times. I have a conversation with each patient about their goals, expectations, and what is achievable and in how many stages.

Are you curious about natural breast augmentation?

Here is an example of one breast after placing 150 cc of fat compared to the other side. We ended up putting 180 cc in each side and this patient is thrilled with her results!

This can be combined with a breast lift, although sometimes more than 1 stage is required to accomplish an augmentation and lift. Note, most patients need 2-3 rounds of fat transfer to accomplish the same result as a 300-400 cc implant, but then the results are long-lasting and do not require any kind of monitoring or replacement (capsular contracture and implant rupture are not risks with this technique).

This is an excellent example of why a BBL is needed when doing a lower body lift on a weight loss patient. After weight loss, the volume in the buttocks is lost and/or in the wrong places. A buttock lift - part of a comprehensive lower body lift - is a necessary procedure for most but by itself will leave the buttocks flat. A BBL or auto-augmentation will help give volume and shape back to the deflated backside.
