🌿 Dissociative Identity Disorder Awareness Day

📅 March 5, 2026

Today we recognize and raise awareness about Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)—a complex trauma-related condition that is often misunderstood.
Despite what movies or media may portray, DID is not about “split personalities.” It is a creative and protective survival response to overwhelming trauma, usually occurring during early childhood.
Many people living with DID are navigating life, relationships, work, and healing while also managing trauma that most people will never see.
For many survivors, dissociation was the mind’s way of protecting itself when there were no other options.

Today we honor the resilience of systems, alters, and trauma survivors who continue doing the courageous work of healing.
If you or someone you know lives with dissociation, know this:
Your experiences are valid.
Your system deserves compassion.
Healing is possible.
Let’s replace stigma with understanding, curiosity, and respect.

🕊️ Awareness leads to compassion.
🌱 Compassion supports healing.

Self-Injury Awareness Day 🧡

Self-harm isn't about seeking attention. It's often a coping mechanism. Many use self-injury to:
• Handle intense emotions
• Feel something amid numbness
• Alleviate inner stress
• Convey indescribable pain
• Restore a sense of control

Raising awareness involves swapping judgment for empathy. If you or a loved one is struggling, support is accessible, and safer coping methods exist.

✨ Harm Reduction & Alternatives
• Hold ice or snap a rubber band
• Draw on skin with a washable marker
• Scream into a pillow
• Tear paper or stomp your feet
• Splash cold water on your face (TIP skill!)
• Write emotions instead of acting on them
• Grounding: 5-4-3-2-1 sensory exercise

You deserve support, not shame.

📞 For immediate help:
• Call or text 988 (Su***de & Crisis Lifeline – U.S.)
• Text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line)
• If in immediate danger, call 911

If you're in Central Florida and seeking therapy, you don't have to face this alone. Healing is possible, and support is available.

Emotion Mind vs Wise Mind

Emotion Mind says: “I feel it, so I do it.”
Big feelings are driving the car 🚗💥
Wise Mind says: “I feel it and I think it through.”

Emotions + logic = balanced choices ✨Not about ignoring feelings—just letting them ride shotgun, not steer 😉

This Valentine's Day, anchor yourself in love and compassion with the Mindfulness skill of Loving Kindness.

Pause, breathe, and offer warm wishes like "May I be happy," and "May I be at peace." Start with yourself, then extend this kindness to others until you feel a sense of love and compassion toward all beings.

🖤 Black History Month 🖤

Black history holds both deep trauma and extraordinary strength.
Generations of resilience, creativity, resistance, care, and community—often carried while navigating ongoing stress, loss, and uncertainty.

In the midst of current world events, collective grief, and ongoing inequities, it makes sense if your nervous system feels tired, on edge, or overwhelmed. Strength does not mean you are unaffected. Survival does not mean you didn’t feel pain.

A DBT-informed mental health skill for this moment: Self-Validation
Try gently telling yourself: “My feelings make sense given what I’ve lived and what I’m witnessing.”
Validation doesn’t erase harm—but it reduces suffering.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to feel.
You are allowed support.
This month—and always—we honor Black lives, Black healing, and Black joy ✨

In our fast-paced world, multitasking often leaves us feeling overwhelmed and detached from the present. Practicing the DBT skill of One-Mindfully encourages us to focus on one task at a time with full presence.
Today, consider:

☕ Enjoying your coffee without the distraction of your phone
🚶 Taking a walk while paying attention to your breathing
📝 Finishing one task without thinking about the next

These small acts of mindfulness contribute significantly to emotional regulation. Therapy can offer guidance on incorporating these skills into everyday life.
