I am a proud Nurse, Soul Health and Wellness Expert & Bluesoul sound healer. The Story
April 1st 1964 A Voice was born that became a source of light for many generations. Radio airways were used a s a vehicle for WVON the Voice of the Nation to become a force of good and an uncompromising platform designed to encourage, enlighten, inspire, inform, entertain, support, and empower millions of pe
ople, families and communities throughout the world. Highly regarded as a community, advocate, partner, and friend WVON good works expanded beyond its radio platform to impact hundreds of thousands of people through countless outreach initiatives dating back to the civil rights movement where Dr. Martin Luther King publicly recognized WVON and Pervis Spann for the outstanding fundraising efforts put forth to support the Mississippi Summer Project of 1964. Since that time WVON has developed hundreds of incredible community oriented programs serving as both a media catalyst for change and a crusader for undeserved communities. WVON's groundbreaking initiatives attracted many corporate partners due to the overwhelming response from the community and their overall effectiveness and success. For decades WVON's powerful voice and outreach efforts help to elevate the consciousness of the community which resulted in the VOICE successfully raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for various causes and institutions. The station spearheaded clothing and food drives for impoverished communities; provided aid and other resources domestically and globally to families impacted by natural disasters. Since 1990 tens of thousands of seniors citizens have attended the annual Seniors Breakfast. Countless people have participated in WVON health awareness programs, financial Seminars, social justice forums and discussions, business workshops, job readiness programs, community festivals, cultural arts expos, theatre film series, children's educational programs, media internship programs, small business symposiums, professional and personal development workshops and more. In recent years the issues impacting Urban America particularly in the Chicagoland area have become extremely challenging. Communities throughout the nation are plagued by crime, fear, unemployment and a state of hopelessness. There's no shortage of reasons why our society is facing such challenges but Now in our country's deepest time of need the WVON's BlueLight Foundation is dedicated to meeting the needs, provide support, and creating solutions.
