The holiday season is often seen as a time for connection, rest, family, and joy—but for many, it can also bring feelings of grief, sadness, and nostalgia. One of my favorite movies is The Grinch, and it wasn’t until a few years ago that I understood why. It’s one of the rare films that truly captures the less talked-about side of the holidays—the pain, stress, and frustration many of us carry. Whether it’s the weight of loneliness, memories of loved ones who are no longer with us, or the pressure parents feel to juggle it all—cooking, gift wrapping, hosting, and trying to create perfect memories for our families—this time of year can be overwhelming.
My hope is that this serves as a reminder: the Grinch was never a “mean one.” He was just wounded and lonely—and that’s a completely valid feeling to have. If you’re experiencing similar emotions, know that you’re not alone. Just like the Grinch, seeking connection is key to surviving the holidays. It’s okay to feel all of it, and reaching out for support can help you navigate this season with more peace and understanding.
